Samsung Looses $44 Billion In Market Valuation As Overall Smartphone Market Sales Slump

Nothing is going well for Samsung as the year progresses towards it’s fourth quarter. It’s revenue generating mainstay – the Galaxy range of smartphones — despite an earlier than Apple debut — has failed to break-even with its production costs. The latest in line of the Galaxy range has added to the company’s whopping loss of $44 billion, which has been nosediving since April this year.

Thanks to this, the Korean smartphone giant’s shares have seen red, with a percentage decline of 8.1 percent in August, reports Bloomberg. If you have to analyse this loss then it was back in 1983 — Samusng had suffered a similar fate. Samsung’s loss has meant that it’s arch-nemesis Apple, takes over the crown.

The company’s losses are so drastic that it has also been knocked off the charts by Chinese upstart smartphone makers. In the month of August alone, the company has lost over $12 billion facing tough competition from budget smartphone makers.

Samsung had recently launched its extended side screen smartphones the S6 Edge and Edge Plus. But as it appears, they have played little part in pushing Samsung’s revenue towards a positive margin. Samsung may have hurried it’s launch in order to gain a significant market share before the launch of Apple’s new line of iPhone’s to be released earlier next month. But the strategy has meant no good for Samsung.

Market watchers also claim that the current smartphone market isn’t showing a positive trend either and the impact is not solely Samsung limited.

But with a loss of $44 billion, Samsung is the one that has taken the fall head-on with a 3 percent slump in its market share for the second quarter of this year. The country that was once it’s highest revenue generator has been taken over by homegrown upstarts like Xiaomi, as Samsung looks to reclaim the Chinese smartphone market, which is the largest in the world.

Xiaomi and Huawei strategy to cater to the budget smartphone market has paid off really well. But Samsung’s higher end releases including its latest offering the Galaxy Note 5 have failed to generate the response that the company eyed for.

Yes it has lost it …

The market capitalization of Samsung Electronics has plunged 24-percent compared to last year.
According to Bloomberg’s statistics of the world’s top 100 companies, Samsung Electronics ranked sixth in market- cap decline.
China’s Alibaba came in first with a 35.two percent decline, followed by Chevron and Qualcomm in the United States.
At the end of August, the market cap for Samsung Electronics stood at 135.six billion U.S. dollars.
This is a drop from 178.eight billion dollars recorded on the last transaction day of last year.
The Korean tech giant has been suffering losses this year due to a bleak outlook in its mobile business.

As mentioned over priced phones with no value …

They are over priced, e5 with lesser specifications is at 15000 while j5 with higher is at 12000, my friend bought grand max at 16000 in March & then its price dropped to 12000 with in April,Samsung is now loosing very faster, they now even offered some good phones ( compared to earlier) at 10-20 k but they still can’t fight, reason Is between 5-20l range there is xiaomi, Lenovo & moto to battle, between 20-30 there is one plus & above 30 apple rules

They will always be overpriced coz like apple samsung too spends billions of dollars in R&D. Visit any R&D Building of samsung,e.g.,Noida. About 10,000 persons work there with hefty packages.
On the contrary, chinese companies don’t have any R&D. They just assemble and copy from big companies and sell the crap to you.
The result is mi4i, etc. No one will claim that there chinese phone is any good coz they are not.
But no one will say that they did not get any support from samsung coz this is what you are paying for.

As far as android market is considered its commoditised. So it makes sense with same features at less bucks with better hardware specs. Samsung does RnD. But still that lacks the xfactor that apple has and it cannot reduce the price factor what chineese companies have.. Samsung S6 is a total failure, now its the time for samsung to wake up and realise where they are and what is that they can improve.

When I start thinking on this discusson. firstly… knox security came on my mind people who want to play his device with another Rom knox tripped and warranty void.. some people says tripping knox doesn’t void warranty…but people are thinking about this before buying… second samsung launched same spec device with different price ex.. Galaxy A5 Galaxy J5… and other things …. But I’m sure build quality of phone much better than Chinese crap and Super AMOLED display is Awesome… https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

I agree with you that they spend a lots on R&D. I have 2-3 friends working at Samsung so I know and understand that very well.
But my exp. alongwith my many friends was really bad. Highly priced phones (I am talking about phone only not other electronics products they make) with low hardware. Have you ever visited Samsung Service center? You will find too many complaints. They are always toooooo crowdy. Not only this, tech. people there will always try to blame you with different reasons like you did over charging and bla bla. Your phone gone bad due to over charging is their fav. execue. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

and why the hell, price for their phone goes from Rs.50000 to Rs.25000 in couple of months? Not justified in any sense https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif Is the cost of raw material going down too low that they offer same hardware for Rs.25k which they were selling for Rs.50K just 7-6 months ago?

They are in a situation that they are neither able to compete Apple for the quality and after sale service nor with Chinese companies like Xiomi, Micromax, Karbonn etc. for high specs + low price phones.

To me, it seems that they lost battle in low ends phone. They are trying high end market by launching Edge etc. but they are not getting success because of poor testimonials and worse after sale service.

Wish you the best of luck Samsung.

i have not owned a single samsung phone in my life and i won’t. u are also right about losing consumer base due to quick lowering of prices. but visit a htc touch service center too.. 80% sitting there are of xiaomi and then of others. also with the chinese mobiles, the services are only of resetting only (software part that one can perform at home too).. nothing else
