Need help choosing bank for international debit card
Hi, All
I currently have sbi bank account and visa card, which doesn’t support international transaction. So I am thinking of opening a saving account in other bank bcz sbi international cards have high annual maintenance fees(AMF) (Correct me if I am wrong ). So can you please suggest me a good bank to open a new account based on following requirements:
(1) must provide international enabled debit card
(2) low AMF for cards and min. balance requirement in account
(3) low currency conversion rate
(4) No other hidden charges
@myliferockkss help me if u can. U can also tag others
PS: What are the max. bank accounts a person can have?

Are you going to use this new account as your main primary account for all your banking related stuffs? bcoz if u are going to replace it as your primary account make sure that it is located in your vicinity…
No. The reason I want to open this account is bcz I want to do international transactions, which I am not able to do with SBI VISA card.

ICICI will solve all your problems … but min bal req is 10k

SBI visa is a big sh*t its not acceptable even on playstore and Bing

Ohkay got it….
U can try digisaving account which fulfills all your requirements imo…
have a look here http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

I also recommend ICICI bank… A year back when ICICI pockets was launched they were providing 0 balance pockets savings account which had similar features like their normal savings account(10k bal)
U can still open up that pockets savings account but now min balance is 5k.
It comes with ICICI Platinum DC in which u can activate International access for crosscurrency tx.
@myliferockkss
HDFC is better option I think. The only issue is min. balance 10k.

Well i opened up icici pockets savings account when it was launched…. And have been using it daily now without any issues….
Plus thing about ICICI is that all their visa/mc dcs can be activated for international transactions…. So even if u get their normal visa dc it will support intl txn. without any issues…. I also like the features they offer in their mobile app/ net banking…. Other good thing is that your pockets v.card and Pockets savings account will be linked to each other so inter transactions is awesome
With HDFC i have heard that only Platinum Chip based Dcs supports intl txn.
So do confirm about HDFC dcs bcoz i dont have personal experience with that bank

I have confirmed that their debit card supports int. tax. So i m confused between Icici and Hdfc. What do u say? Also I already have 2 sbi accounts. Does having more no of accounts create problem?

I recommend ICICI bcoz of personal experience….
And u can have as many accounts u like.. only thing u have to worry about is managing them
But according to your requirements and needs i think digisavings is enough to fulfill all that.. So why open up a account with 10k Amc

No bank can match service currently being offered by Digibank by DBS,not even DBS india . And now they have started marketing Digibank too aggressively, hardly 6 months after it was launched for general public.

i have both icici and axis bank platinum cards….. both work internationally without any hassle , but their exchange rate is higher than my local lakshmi vilas bank. for lakshmi vilas bank they ask an international limit enabling form to be filled and it works wherever icici card works. But the best card i have is the axis one as it works in every international website i tried, including paypal and a malaysian website where my other cards did not work though My earlier normal icici card (silver) did work in paypal.

Account can be opened by filling some extra form, I think 15G/H if you don’t have PAN card, but some banks might not allow this.
No problem. And PAN is required now for wallets and prepaid cards as well if you spend more than 50000 in a FY.

PS: SBI doesn’t have high AMC for cards…. only issue is that their DC’s are not truly international…
