I don’t have a specific budget. but I can arrange around 6.0 -7.5 lakh … (Hopefully 8 bhi jama ho sakta )
Want to gift a Car to my parents near November . Mostly it will be driven in the city (Mumbai) .
Should I go for hatchback or compact sedan ?
Baleno vs Elite i20 ?
or should I go for xcent / dzire / vw ameo or anything ?
Need some good insights. ?
Would love to have a good design , somewhat good mileage , low maintenance would be preferable .
Dont know much about the technicalities.

Elite i20 is good in both petrol & diesel versions.. i just gave you options as per your budget. Baleno is good but my friend said that when compared with swift, swift has more power. Also waiting period is more & varies from city to city. Also mention which is your first preference? Mileage or performance?
For your parents Honda Brio could be ideal. Its perfect for congested city road, its powerful, mileage is good for a petrol car. You can also check out the Honda Brio AT, this AT version is around 9.5 on road. Celerio AMT could also be a good choice. AT will be a boon to drive in the city. Celerio AMT ZXI should be well within your budget.

honda brio is not good at sales! talked to few friends about it.. even the recent statistics show poor sales.. go for other better options too

Yes no matter what. sabka opinion matters.
brio is too small . btw it has some good looks. so not good for me.
Celerio is good but. I would prefer swift or baleno over it. (If only Maruti brand comes into picture)

To be frank. I am going to be 23 and this will be my first car . So dont know much about mileage and performance stuff.
But I would prefer somewhat reliable car with good looks. Good mileage and all (normal indian thinking – Kita deti hain ? ). Performance should be at par.

Stopped looking into the trading section 8-9 months back when got ripped off 5k + 2k by two people.
While typing this I again got ripped from a person for 500 bucks (AB rippers msg karna chalu karna yeh sochke ki mast bakra hain )
I daily visit dnd and hd . around 100-120 page hits are by me only on daily basis

Then i would suggest you to go for a small budget car like Celerio, Kwid, Eon, Redigo or Tiago. You will get good mileage & maintenance also will be less. Once you have gone through all the road driving experience in peak traffic, maintenance issues & costs involving insurance, you will get a idea about what kind of car you want & Later you can go for a big budget car as your income would have increased by that time.

Then check out both Baleno & Elite i20. Take a test drive & find which you & your parents like more…. If you want to buy a car now, then go for Elite i20 as Baleno has a longer waiting period.
Also Maruti is going to launch 2 new cars, Ignis & Baleno RS (powerful version) during the festival season. You will get good mileage & average maintenace with Maruti cars. Check this,

thok di maine toh
Anybody can comment on the new car from Volkswagen … AMEO .
any insight on it ?
Volkswagen cars are expensive to maintain when compared to the brands such as Maruti or Hyumdai.
I take my parents around quite a lot in my Grand i10 and one complaint I always get is about lack of adequate leg room, especially for the rear seats. I recommend you to check out how good the rear seating is in baleno. I have used a friend’s i20 elite few times and didn’t find the rear seating to be too different from grand i10 so a no for that.
Do cut the glam you get in best hatchbacks in that price range and give compact sedans a shot too, provided the person who drives is comfortable with compact sedans in city traffic. I have no experience with these so can’t really recommend any car in specific.
I would suggest u to go for the bigger cars than hatchbacks ,
Reason is ,car is a big invest. Today if bought u wont look back at least 3-4 years.
So choose wisely n I would have gone for bigger one.
Try some compact SUVs TUV100, 300, FORD ecosport, (test drive all of them)
Or Honda amaze, dezire, tata zest, Hyundai xcent (personally I would have chosen amaze in this section because its a time tested car with good mileage and power in diesel varient)
Or smaller ones – i20 elite, grand i10, tata tiago,
If budget is extendable a bit, try test ride of s cross.
Below are upcoming models of toyota
etios facelift
& Vios
I trust this brand. Compared to other innitial cost would be 5-7% higher, but thats worth.
Engine – never heard any negative feedback
After sales – supper
Zero maintenance
Generally travel operators also prefer this brand, just because of qulality
read through your multiple posts and found you gravitating towards MS Baleno. fantastic car and fantastic build quality ( drove it for 600kms). Since your first car; stick to Maruti ownership experience will be good.
if driven only in mumbai city for home use stick to petrol. you will later have an option to fit in a CNG kit for just 30k and get diesel economy.
But waiting time is a killer. So plan purchase accordingly.

+1
Adding to this, since its for your parents – CVT variant is available.
also – Dual Airbags + ABS is present across all variants..

Volkswagen ameo is looks wise not so good but performance nd mileage wise its good at dat price but as someone stated above maintenance cost will be more for it…
Baleno my preference if u can wait nd as u said u want to buy in November it will be perfect I can blindly go for maruti Suzuki cars if I like d model…

Toyota etios current versions are also almost to zero maintenance but looks wise its simple he needs good model too…
Try to get your parents personally see and feel the car before you buy(any car).
If you will be driving the car most of the time then you can buy it whatever suits you, but if your parents would be driving it then let them take a test drive before you actually buy.
This is not a piece of shirt or trouser that you can exchange or alter later on! (Only option is sell at loss)
The car which will be most suited by you might not be best suited for your parents in comfort.
Just came from office and saw so many good suggestions. thanks ppl .

Awesome suggestion bro . The thing is I have been transferred to bangalore so salary bach nai rahi jyada . And I am in job from just 8 months (4 months bench and 2months training including ). So promotion bhi door hain abhi bahut
So budget 8 ke upar toh is mostly very hard.

To be frank , I just need to surprise my parents with a car.
In the end we will be using uber / ola only
Btw we will not be using car for too many outdoor trips . Daily commute and normal outings or functions here and there.
SO I think petrol would be fine for me. Why to waste on diesel when I will not use the car so much . right .
And , Yeah I am liking the baleno just bcoz of the maruti tag and the latest model. But as said compact sedan can also be a good choice. xcent / amaze / dzire .
