Wrong Usage of Emoticons

Guys,
I am annoyed by the rampant incorrect usage of some emoticons so here is a short, yet important post. I am not blaming anybody for their ignorance because these expressions are probably not common in our Indian culture. But I hope this will help you learn and adopt the correct usage of these emoticons.
#1 on my list is the eyeroll emoticon:
Incorrect Usage: Many people here on DesiDime incorrectly use this emoticon to convey that they are confused or asking about a post that they have quoted. Some literally use it as an arrow to point ‘upwards’ thinking that’s what the direction of the eye movement means.
Correct Usage: To express disappointment over something. The meaning is somewhat similar to another popular expression “shaking my head” or SMH, but the word “eyeroll” is not used in written communication – it’s a facial expression.
#2 on my list is the blush/embarrassed emoticon:
Incorrect Usage: To express anger. I have seen it used here on DesiDime for this purpose many times.
Correct Usage: To express embarrassment or shame.
I invite other users to contribute if they have found a similar incorrect usage of some emoticon on a large scale. Let me end this post with the following meme.

may be the in-house pack is not wholesome or not expressive enough in what one wants to portray. [not talking of the add-ons from users or DD Mods]
I for one always feel at a loss to use the confused emoticon : I hoped it to look more like
same with the surprised icon.. doesn’t look even half way to |shock|
you are right about the anger or beeeep symbol usage. I guess here too some different additions could work.
sometimes if one does not like something or wants to officially curse (referral spammers)
then how to show ones helplessness or exasperation ?

Might I suggest this:
Atleast one person has voted this thread down, probably out of embarrassment or the hurt this caused to their ego.
“A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them.” — John C. Maxwell
@Ԝar ʗat: I agree with your observations, especially about the ‘confused’ emoticon ( ). It seems to convey disappointment way more than confusion.
@Admins: I know there are much more important issues with the website that need to be addressed first. But please add the following to the list:
- Fix the ‘confused’ emoticon
- Add a ‘tooltip’ for each emoticon to clarify the intended purpose

war-cat is an old friend sir;
He knows more than the admin himself about dd
It seems that war-pussy was here before DD was born.
Some food for thought:
good info!
I am an engineering student

Bro, if you are saying something, wouldn’t it be better if your conveyed meaning is interpreted correctly? I hope your engineering college does provide a mandatory course on communications to every student. Communicating effectively and correctly will become the most important thing for you when it’s time for job placements/interviews. It’s also a skill that will help you throughout your life. So I hope you’ll take this seriously.
Off topic but I hv seen many people substituting “between” for “by the way” Even people who should know better and are otherwise pretty much spot on in everything else.

I know that , but that’s important for formal talk like job placement
here I just write casually and I don’t want to think some time to use the correct grammar or emoticon

Which is the right way to go abt things. Publicly calling them out more often than not yields the opposite results. I should know having been at the wrong end once. Thereafter I did nt bother. Its not as if I hv a personal stake in this.

I keep telling @dimernew to do the same, but he insists on doing it publicly.
but you understood that they used it wrong and also understood what they actually meant
then the communication principle is satisfied.
now in this oild age, learn andriod, apps but even emoji. this is too much

Well, not for everyone.

I’ve seen a few people use the one when they’re angry, sometimes even along with the one
