On Xiaomi Forums there was a post by Hugo Barra that they would give 100 normal users to experience Redmi 1S before they actually launch it ! In return we would have to post the bugs experienced in usage . Along with logs and bit of other stuff . I gave my name for that and luckily got into 100 users !

The h/w is great for the price(worth more than the price) but only problem with 1s is MIUI. Its too heavy for it and buggy. Hope they work on it.

For the purpose of beta testing ideally they should have selected a very basic user who would actually give them hands on review from the perspective of being a idiot proof device. As far as i am concerned i would tweak things and make it work . But that is not how it should be ! Making the device idiot proof should be their target. Since the price range of Redmi 1S is such that a large number of users would be switching from lower end device or may be 1st time smartphone users . Hence at this price range making the device idiot proof is essential !!
It does not matter whether you give loads of awesome features to the users until the people actually know how to use them . This is one of the main criticisms of Android as a Operating systems . Android undoubtedly gives hell lot of power to the user in terms of how they want their device to be …… but the essential specifics of Android are not propagated well . That is the only place where iOS manages to beat Android in terms of propagating the actual features of the device.
This is where google’s focus is presently . They need to make people more and more aware of how awesome their device could be !! So starting with Android One you would be seeing more targeted ads from Google.

If they succeed in letting people know the actual stuff it will be an unprecedented success. For eg, MIUI has tons of built in UI features which a user who has just switched from Vanilla UI would not be aware of. That is why MI India in their FB pages regularly lists some cool tricks and tips for MIUI. They should doing this more in order to educate people !

Redmi 1S > 1GB RAM + snapdragon 400 (1.6ghz , MSM8228)
Zenphone 5 > 2GB RAM + Intel atom with hyper threading.

Rest all is pretty much same .

2GB RAM will give you better multitasking experience . Intel atom processors are presently uncharted territory in mobile space . Since you have already purchased them you don’t have an issue with price ! So no problems with your present purchase of Zenphone 5.
