Ipad Mini Review - Two months later

I have had the ipad mini for over 2 months now. Here is an updated review.

Screen : The screen is not that sharp. Yet it is only noticeable while u are reading books. For rest of the purposes ( Gaming/Video/Magazines) , it is hardly noticeable. In fact, due to the lightweight nature of the tablet, i think most people will prefer this over the heavy ipad for day to day activities.

Browsing: While safari seems to get the job done with a little zooming, i downloaded perfect browser and overrode font default to 200%. Works great for forums and all. Check out the below hot deals page . All in all, an 8 inch tab feels more like a mini laptop than oversized phone. Browsing on phone is still a tedious affair for me and on the contrary, browsing on a tab,even though still a little adjustment is needed, is much more comfortable

Gaming : This device is a godsend for gaming. An 8 inch tablet, yet so light. In short, you enjoy the big screen area for great graphics without straining your hands. Games like real racing 3 look fantastic, NFS HP also looks quite good. All in all, i really enjoy gaming much more on tablet now that on mobile no matter how big( Nowadays gaming on note2 feels “meh” in comparison) .

Video and Audio : Audio is just top notch. I have a rockboxed Sansa Clip plus and E250, yet the undiluted sound quality of the ipad feels fantastic, not in anyway less than my sansa products. Im becoming a fan of the neutral sound quality of apple devices. I could listen to hours and be lost in it.

1080p playback is no problem for this device. Just install imedia player. No complains for video playing as it gets the job done rite using 3rd party tools.

Reading : Another great use of this tab is reading epubs/pdfs. As pointed out earlier, while reading at first , u might notice the lack of sharpness. However, once u have used it over a period of time and adjusted the proper font/size , u can get over it. PDF images are rendered beautifully and text once again is a lil blurry but manageable

Optimized magazines for the ipad, on the other hand, are a delight . See the CineWorld Magazine below. Also, Comics are a real treat. Still searching for the perfect comics app.

Apps : As an amateur musician, i have GarageBand for ios. Nothing comparable is there on android. Was able to play intro of pehla nasha with piano, beats and guitar chords. Love ios for this reason alone .

This is one major advantage of ios that it has apps tailored for a niche segment.

*Battery Life/ Operation * : IOS handles memory management perfectly. There is no lag while switching between/resuming apps. Finally a device where i dont have to root it to enhance performance/install battery saving apps.

All in all, this is a fantastic purchase and a great VFM product. Also , be aware of the fact that unlike some android tablets whose performance starts deteriorating after a while ( Search for Nexus 7 problems after a year), Apple products keep performing as well as the first day even after 2-3 years. The ipad1 is still going strong for many.
