Ported my primary number to Jio just now trusting that Reliance would eventually improve the network availability and other networks to provide more access ports for calls.

People supporting Airtel.

Yes, I agree their network is better and more consistent but I would rather bet on Jio than to give these good-for-nothing idiots another try. They probably have one of the most dumb and senseless customer care team that repeatedly stoop down to new lows.

I have had my share of terrible experiences with them and would avoid any sort of postpaid commitment with them.

In fact, before porting to Jio I drove down to Airtel’s office near our home to see if they have nay attractive prepaid offers for customers willing to port but sadly the bst they had to offer was Rs. 349 recharge that gives you free calls + 1GB 4G data each month which I get on Idea as well currently. The manager at the store was trying hard to convince me opt for the Rs. 549 postpaid plan (Rs. 631 along with taxes) but I told him about all the bad experiences I had with Airtel and I would never get another postpaid connection with them.

Hoping that the calls would connect better once Jio kicks off paid plans I opted for Jio instead. Mr. Mukesh Ambani is very serious about Jio and investing huge sum of money in improving the network. Yes, the service has glitches and many users will not find it to be ideal but I don’t mind opting for it on my primary sim now.

Also, I hardly make around 500 minutes of call for the entire month and most of my usage is for data which is around 3 to 4 gb currently on Idea network. So Jio seems to be a better bet overall.

I have never user Jio, have some basic questions from expert Dimers:
(1) If i do not recharge for a particular month, will my incoming voice call stop? I heard that this is voice over data so to keep sim active, you should have data active even for incoming calls. Is this true?
(2) If I install JioWi at home, how do I make use of free voice calls? Do I need 4G phone or I can do on a 3G phone also?

1. No need to switch on data to get incoming or make outgoing calls

Good great long thread. Interesting discussion.

A few people are opposing Jio and supporting AVoId. Best of luck to them. After all if someone wants to pay more nobody should stop them. They help the economy.

My mother is using Jio in Ahmedabad for almost 4 months now. The temporary Jio SIM that was taken as an entertainment so that she can make video calls and use whatsapp has become the primary number now. She used her primary Idea number for 18 minutes on Jan’17. Once in a while she faces problem like phone not connecting through Jio. For that she has to dial the same number maximum of 4 times. She is now moving her Postpaid Idea to prepaid and it will become a secondary number.

I am using Jio as secondary SIM and watching youtube daily while going home. I don’t see any speed issue in Pune.

My wife and 4 of my other relatives have already ported to Jio a month back. Most of my family members are now going to port their primary number to Jio.

The time is up for AVoId. They looted India for almost 15 years. I remember Hutch (now Vodafone, Gujarat) was charging Rs 14/min for incoming call in 2000/2001. Better fall in line or perish – is the clear message for them. Even at this moment their mobile plans (Voice+Data) are some 30 times expensive than Jio.

Rs.149 pack should be reintroduced with 200mb data per day
Or

There is nothing to be reintroduced. All the plans offered so far are on Jio.com except yesterday’s announcement of Rs. 303 plan.

Why to wish something “limited”. If you have to wish, wish that they give Rs. 50 plan with unlimited data, with a couple bookmyshow ticket/month, 30% discount at restaurants, some 10 liters of free petrol, Rs.50 of paytm credit….. Then whole of India will opt for it probably.

since jio launching, i remembers anil ambani’s mega projects rcom & reliance power. RCOM also started with same bandwagon with revolution coming. But what happens next, we all know very well. Reliance instries rose today to make 8 years high, on jio pricing plans & revenue forecast. but only time will tell answer…till then enjoy jio & upcoming AvoId free plans…. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Deal Subedar Deal Subedar

That happens when you have half-knowledge about a thing. You are comparing both as they have surname Ambani and that is just max. limit of your thinking.

Have you ever go deep to know why Anil Ambani’s RCOM didn’t took off? Why Jio is much better places then them? Let me answer you.

RCOM got CDMA license in 2002-03 and launched network with few base stations at dense populated areas. Then they came to towns in next 3-4 years but never covered 65% of population with CDMA. There were many gaps which exist even now in their 4G since shut down CDMA and liberalize 850 MHz spectrum. In 2007, they got GSM license and network expand their network beyond city limits. Their GSM network has only 60% coverage even after 11 years of getting license. Then came 3G auction in 2010 and they failed to create 3G network also with only 30% of their BTS are upgarded to 3G and others still hanging on to 2G because of scarcity of funds. On most of places they don’t had their own network and shared with Aircel and Tata Docomo for voice only not data. So why would customer think of them? They let 900 MHz spectrum go in 6 of their better revernue circles and then asked customers to take 3G handset as all they left was with 3G spectrum in those 6 circles. Some did rest all left them.

Now come to Mukesh Ambani’s Jio- First of all they have a 4G- only network. No mess of 2G/3G coverage. They have invested very fast in infrastructure because of deep pockets they have and being cash rish company Reliance has covered 80% of population and it will cover 99% by next year taking out every loop or gaps in their network. They have biggest chunk of spectrum and have 5-10 MHz of 850 MHz band 5 which is superior band available for now until 700 MHz spectrum auction is held and someone takes it. All they have to think about is 4G only networks and not about 2G or 3G which makes them having a strategy better than anyone. I mean when you have 2-3 things on the table you are confused which one to eat and which not. But they have to concentrate on only one. They have VoLTE network all over which none of the operator has. Coverage issues are already gone at most places except some as they have 850 MHz spectrum in every circle now and also in future they can bid for RCOM or Tata’s spectrum in 2022. Also their holdings of 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz is more than enough which is serving people in densely populatyed areas. They have more time for license expiry then other players like RCOM, Tata etc.

I can give you endless points why Jio is better palced and why they will not have same fate as RCOM had. RCOM sinked because of mismanagment and their people were not interested to run. Every other day they changed their CEOs and MDs. They lacked strategy skills and many top-position holder made it money-minting company instead of growing it. They just talked but never delivered. But Mukesh Ambani wants business and he want returns on every rupee he invest. He is delivering what he aims to. He wanted 10 crore customers in shortest possible time and they get it. Can’t you how how hard they are working? Also a pro-consumer company never dies.

It is vision and hard work of administrators that make wonders to business or companies and not their names

As far as AVoId is concerened they too invested and provide better network but failed to work out on pricing strategy and their anti-consumer approach which killed the golden goose as in hope of billions in few days, they are losing same now.

The 40 crore customers target by Jio will be achieved in next 1 year. Time is changing and Jio is changing with time more faster than anyone. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Bharti Airtel to acquire Telenor India

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel Will acquire the business of Telenor India for an undisclosed sum in all seven circles where it holds spectrum.

Airtel today said it has “entered into a definitive agreement with Telenor South Asia Investments Pte Ltd to acquire Telenor (India) Communications Private Limited.”

In a separate statement, Telenor said that the transaction will not trigger any impairment. As of fourth quarter 2016, the remaining value of tangible and intangible assets in Telenor India amounted to NOK 0.3 billion. The transaction is expected to close within 12 months," Telenor said.

Good for you.

Rs. 197 of 1 GB Vodafone is a good plan. Jio’s 30 GB comes at a cost of Rs 303. The gap of Rs. 100 is a difficult to bridge and many people will not like to pay for it. Instead they would juggle with combination of recharges so that their calling rate remain reduced and they will contain their voice usage so that they do not overshoot their mobile expenses.

Besides you go on trips 3 times/year. Certainly you need constant coverage. You may also not have a dual SIM phone where you can have a prepaid BSNL/AVoId SIM which you can recharge once in a blue-moon that can cover you for those few days. In those circumstances it definitely makes sense to stay put with Vodafone.

This is what JIO should understand. If they even lower that price by 50 all fence sitters will jump in with their eyes closed at least tripling their current estimates of 10 million. In spite of bouquet of freebies JIO aka reliance is bound to dip
1. JIO has given away number of sim cards to a single adhar. Now, till it was free, people won’t mind keeping the same, and using all of them by changing often (specially heavy downloader). It gives inflated number of users than it actually has. People will stop using extra sim card when they have to pay for it and thus overnight user base will collapse.

2. Even if your phone is 4G ready the volte technology makes phone tad slow. Specially those who uses jio calling app. Call drop and loss of signal is very common phenomenon. Unless jio works on it they bound to loose customer.

3. The spectrum jio bought is practically good for outdoor signal but it will struggle to keep good signal strength. Hope all of you have already experienced that.

4. Jio might have invested thousands of crores by distributing sweets for months to the indians, but it may take up loan easily by showing user base and being biggest player in telsec

Naaah.
You miscalculated and misinterpreted. (I guess so)

→ People have taken many SIM cards with same Aadhar card just to share free wala sim with family members (or outstation friends without local Aadhar).

→Volte doesn’t make phone slow. Its Jio 4G voice app which might be slowing down a less RAM phone.

→ Spectrum is not bad. It gives me better speed indoors than AVoId already.

→ Jio has invested 1 lakh crores but its Reliance, they are here to rule. Unlike impractical Kingfisher. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

Jio Prime: a signal rather than a strategy?

In my opinion, the only reason why Jio introduced the Prime membership was to use it as a pricing signal. In short, Jio wants to test how many members would be willing to pay for its services and that is why it is asking people to pay Rs 99 between March 1 and March 31 even though the Rs 303 plan does not come into effect before April.

I guess depending upon how many people pay for the Prime membership, Jio would further tweak its plans in order to either get more subscribers on board or retain the existing ones.

👆🏻

Do not go for Prime membership in early March even if it costs just ₹99. You can sign up for membership on 31st March via online payment too. Let us push down Jio plan costs more. If less no. of ppl get prime, Jio will offer more to lure customers.

We have not seen the end of the Jio pricing story, take my word for it.
