Got a converter, will work on tonight. Have an extra 250 GB HDD, will use that for storage medium, will use macrium to backup/replace the Partition table, first will upgrade the firmware then the rest of the job…

Cost is Rs.325/- got it for 225/-. On a side note, it’s having the Audio port to, but don’t exactly know how I’m gonna make use of it…

Couldn’t sign up to image gateway
It won’t detect external HDDs if they have data. You need to format it again
Transferring 50GB data from SD card to CS100 took almost 1hr
NFC is good though no issues with my 80D but i don’t watch pictures on TV sadly

I may have to dismantle it and use it as internal HDD

Just wanted to let those thinking of using the HD for other purposes that this is not a regular hard drive, this is used to store video only where errors are not a problem hence it ignores them like those drives used in raid setup’s. I saw many people use this in laptops and such but thats a bad idea since you never know if the lockup was due to a corrupted program or bad sector etc. On a normal drive ti retires many times to get rid of the error while on this it just ignores it completely. You also need a torx screw driver to open the case. You could get a regular android media box and use this drive with that though to store videos and photos etc. For backups and the like you need to use a program like winrar which has error recovery. Too bad canon did not just make it store any kind of file and play back at least more MP4 formats as it would then have made this at least usable to many people. Thats the great thing with the android media player which plays everything and has almost all the same functions although it is not so robust. ie it is not made for rugged use like this one is.

Well flipkart is again selling this for 2500. So I decided to see what I could do with it. Actually its pathetic. Its only useful for photographers since you upload it from the phone via a web brrowser one pic at a time.. But in case you want to use the hard drive for something else, I found a few things of importance..

It is difficult to copy the hard drive or make an image of it. In the end I ended up using EaseUS todo backup which did make a backup image as well as a disk to disk clone of the drive. But to get here took me like a week since nothing else would work. It does use a linux OS. So I got partitionGuru to find the largest partition which was 915GB in size and reduced that to 5 GB to make the entire Cannon drive into a 20GB section on the HD. I added a new partition to use the 910GB free space on the drive for storing movies and such since the drive does no CRC error checking. I then updated the OS V1.52 which it comes with to V2.52 which I am not sure what it does but took like 2 hours of downloading. Did not notice any new features. Many other programs will just trash the harddrive so it was very tedious. Also from the box itself I cold not get the men screen to show up. But it did start working after a lot of trial and errors. I also have a linux android TV box but no built in HD and this would have worked great with that. I am just shocked that Cannon would make such an expensive device that only worked for one particular purpose and nothing else. IE take a picture and then store it and print it out. This works out great at parties and weddings but not for general use, it did connect to my cannon printer easily but I can do that with the phone or computer as well. I have a 250GB hard drive so I put that inside this to play with. But its so tedious to use its pointless. You need one of those torx screwdrivers to open the box and Phillips screwdrivers to extract the drive. You can use like a hot knife and slice through the area holding the screws to also break in, in case you are never going to use it. But the HD is sensitive so be careful. I feel sad because its such a waste. This could make a fantastic android TV box which also costs like 3000 and up and have similar chips inside. The 1TB HD would really be useful with that since you can download and upload stuff easily and run all apps from the playstore.

This wont even upload PNG pictures. And plays only x264 MP4 files. Just amazing they removed so much functionality from the default settings since linux by default for media comes with a lot of stuff. Shocking that it cant upload lossless PNG files only JPG’s. You have to convert all the avi’s and mkv’s into this x264 MP4 files before this device will play it or even accept it for upload.

Please PM me if you have an unused board leftover after removal of HDD. I’d like to dump the NAND and hopefully modify it to get something interesting working in it. This requires multiple boards if I set the board on fire unintentionally

Anyone bought this and scrapped it for the hard drive? I had bought this for my uncle who uses canon camera. Now it’s remote is dead. I can’t find it’s remote anywhere. So if anyone of you have the remote without any use, I can buy it from you. Please let me know.

Anyone has CS100, the remote got damaged due to battery, I need to setup IR blaster? Can anyone help

Also, how is the device doing I bought 2 in the deal back then but didn't use it at all!
