After completing 44 years in Himalayan Trekking, Youth Hostels Association of India once again brings the National Himalayan Trekking Expedition– SAR Pass, 2015, in the beautiful Parvati valley of Kullu District in Himachal Pradesh. SAR Pass is one of the most popular trails of the Shivalik range of the mighty Himalayas. Parvati valley abounds in natural beauty with snow clad mountains, perennial rivulets, streams and waterfalls, picturesque meadows in the midst of dense forests of Devdar and Fir trees, which beckon the young adventure lover to come and experience the serene and calm atmosphere of all pervading nature.
SAR Pass Trail offers an opportunity to enjoy the exquisite beauty of the Parvati valley with Kasol, Tila Lotni, Biskeri and Manikaran as its beauty spots. Kasol is famous for its cool and pleasant climate and tall pine trees. Tila Lotni can literally be called the little ICE LAND, where one can experience the challenges of nature in full fury, during spine chilling cold nights. The splendid views of snowy peaks offer an endless feast to the eyes. Biskeri fascinates the trekkers with its sweet grasses, wild flowers and a variety of birds. Hot water springs of Manikaran, are bliss. A natural hot water bath at these springs relieves you of all the tiredness and rejuvenates the body, mind and soul with a new energy.

i visited when it was around 3000. You dont need to be “hard core” trekker for this. even people with age of 50 above do this trek.
YHAI’s all Himalayan trek are low budget. If you want adventure go for their Jalori Pass mountain biking .

Brief review :
- There are two routes and i am not sure which route they follow these days
- My route was via Gunapani—faulpani—Tilalotni and back via some other route.
- From Kasol to Tilalotni and back you will be staying in Tents all the time.
- You reach to altitude of around 12500ft so as you go up, resources will be less.
- Food is hygenic and good but as per trekking standards. What i mean by trekking standards is they try thier best but you can expect potato’s all over as it is readily available there. Dont expect 2-3 veggies and butter roti etc. variety will be limited but whatever is essential.
- I would prefer you to pay the fees offline by visiting local YHAI office. you will understand few more things there. Call and ask them what all they require before you go
- Climate is extreme at few locations. Tilalotni which was highest point on my route, it was lush green when we reached thier in the morning but full snow on the next when we got up. So be prepared.
- You would be carrying more than 10kg(dont remember exact weight) on your back and climb up so practice well.
- Its one of the finest trek experience i ever had with a group of 60 odd people of all over India.
If you need anything else PM me
FYI : I visited back in 2011 so i am not sure if there are any changes

VU for the uniqueness of the deal !!
YHAI is an association and it has hostels(read: cottages, rooms – accommodation) all over the world. They plan the things very well because they know it very well. I am answering a few FAQs here. Let me know if you need any other information. I can help you as much as I know
How can they provide at low cost?
They are an international association and they don’t expect huge profits.
Any strict rules?
No Alcohol, No Non-Veg
Cleanliness?
Good, but not the best. If you want a wonderful and decent journey, go for it. If you want a luxurious journey, skip it.
Fitness levels?
You can check with the organizer as they have separate treks based on the fitness levels. I have seen kids(7-10years) also come on treks. They are accompanied and are usually taken by bus from point to point. Once they reach a particular point, they can roam around and get back to the bus.
Safety?
Very safe. You are not alone.
Happy trekking.
Nice deal not only for it’s price…for getting different deals. Thanks bro…VU & S!!
