Such a relief! I have balance lying in the account for very long, from the time airtel announced the 3-month unlimited calling plans.
only 3 recharge – 448, 199 and 349 under quick recharge..it has been there for long.. can not use balance for any other recharge value

no one will be able to pay through balance…bcoz if you proceed further and choose PAY VIA BALANCE it shows Your transaction has failed due to a technical error.Please try again later…..i am trying this from 3 months…Only Some Recharges are possible in latest version of the app i.e., Rs 29, Rs 48,Rs 98, Rs 175

This is only for selected users from months. If you have higher balance than the plan and are lucky then you can recharge from balance. Not everyone can recharge whatever they want from balance. Airtel still looting everyone.
Can anyone suggest the same way for Idea Calcutta?

Vodafone and Idea was already providing it from long but many were not aware about it. Even their CC says can’t be activated yet I did for my family and friends using default methods.
Vodafone has star444# for everything here- e.g *444*PlanCost#. So what I do is before adding balance dial the code and if it says insufficient balance means plan can be activated. If it says Wrong keywords means can’t be activated via USSD. Simple as that. They have 149/255/399/458/509 here for 28/28/70/84/90 days so *444*458# for 84 days 1.4GB Plan. Best offers can’t be activated thru balance. But still you can check *121# as small plans can be activated and it’s written with plan info like reply 5 to subscribe.
Idea *150*PlanCost# like *150*399# or *150*449# here. Do check your plan price for circle as they are different. And before adding balance always dial the code and if you get insufficient balance error then go ahead and add balance.
Airtel also had normal benefit of plans at *129#. But now *121# also allowed for activation for specific customers not all.
So now we can do full talk time recharged in other sites, accordingly, and earn cash back on it. And use that cash back for 3 months plan ???
