Hindi is very well absorbed in more than 20 states of India. Hindi is having much demographic presence in India. In southern region of India, I have seen that it is indeed very difficult for them to speak hindi. My point is, if not hindi then which language? Accepting hindi as national language is not certainly going to corrupt their mother tongue. It will be a sign of oneness. There has to be one language that can be understood as well as spoken throughout the India. It is more of a egoistic issue than a language issue. It’s time Hindi lovers realize that they are doing great injustice to Hindi by asking everyone to learn and use it. It makes people like me who are fluent in Hindi to stop responding or using Hindi and switch to either full English or my mother tongue. Already so many languages are extinct. There’s a valid feeling that South is being neglected and with this adamant attitude on Hindi there might be demands to secede as well. See the way population of some North Indian states grew in last 4-5 decades where family planning rules are not followed.
