Today morning at 3:40 AM my Amex account got hacked and they changed email id and used card for online transactions of 3000+1500+1500+1500+1500 for total of 9000 Rs at ZAAKPAY-RETAIL SERVICES PG. Called customer care earlier and complained immediately, they blocked the card and told they will investigate further and all Transactions will get reversed. There are 3 cards registered online and only one card they used it, can anyone confirm if all above Transactions will get reversed and on how to restore my online password. Also is there any chance they will use my remaining cards.

I saw similar thread earlier but unable to find now, hence raised as new topic.

From all this discusssions, I can gather that there is a high possibility of this being an inside job. I had discussions with AMEX team and I gave them a piece of my mind. They said that they will look into it and do something about it. But I havenot heard from them since then. Received bill adjusted for the disputed amounts and also have been told that my replacement card is in transit

But before I start using it again, I need to be sure that the hacking of AMEX online account has stopped

Any update @A2Zdeals

They waived my annual fees
They said sorry for what all happened
And blah blah
.
I must say Amex CC isn’t that great or prompt anymore…just that fraud transactions are given credit without hassle goes good for them else I am not happy.
I poked them at various intervals, in between I got busy with other stuff & could not grill them.
But it shows serious apathy by Amex team that despite people alerting them they did not become serious on time & let more customers get affected.

My Amex Platinum card online account got hacked this Sunday (July 1st). I received an SMS and an E-Mail notifying of a change in the registered phone number and Email at 9:16 am. I saw my phone around 10:15 and noticed the SMS and Email.

Called customer support and they blocked the card but by then there had been about 15 transactions on Amazon Pay each for Rs. 500 or less.

And this happened to me last night.

Same story: Linked email and mobile number got changed, online login password changed and 30-40 transactions on Paytm, Mobikwik, Airtel money worth 100-5000 Rs.

This is what may have happened:
1. Fraudster gets card number, name, cvv somehow (from offline or online usage)
2. Goes to Amex online website and resets password. Amex has big loophole as anybody with above details can reset password by guessing Year of birth (which is quite easy to crack considering limited combinations)
3. Changes mobile and email linked to card (either online or by calling CC)
4. Uses card on Paytm, Airtel money, Mobikwik, Amazon Pay etc (he gets OTP on newly changed email/phone now)

Worst thing with Amazon is if card is registered under Amazon and if you know the pincode of registered address you can do as many number of Transactions. No OTP for Amazon.in

My Amex account was compromised too. And I suspect card details got leaked as I used them on petrol bunks. Most of the times fuel refillers take card from you and go to other place to swipe the card as all their swipe machines don’t support AMEX . I suspect the foul play during this time. Hence I have started using PayTm on petrol bunks.

Can everybody whose Amex account was compromised, please answer following questions. It will help in identifying how it happened:

1. Online login password was reset in compromise (YES/NO)
2. Linked Mobile and Email was changed before frauad transactions (YES/NO). If yes, did Amex informed how and on which mode (online/phone call to customer care) this got changed?
3. After compromise, Card was used on online wallets accounts like Paytm/Mobikwik/Amazon/Airtel (YES/NO)
4. Was card used before compromise for adding money/transacting on any of the mobile wallets like Paytm or Mobikwik (YES/NO)
5. Was rewards points in your account were also redeemed after compromise (YES/NO)

Its high time AMEX stops giving OTP on email. I even called them and informed about their loop hole with amazon where even with PIN code anyone can do transaction. They thanked me for my feedback but no action taken. As far i read long back as per RBI rules for transaction above 2500(not sure) OTP is mandatory below that limit any alternate method can be used hence AMEX is using PINcode. They are following US model in India as if PINcode is very confidential thing !!!

Agree

Amex is so risky

With pin code can do anything

I was shocked to see my transactions getting through without otp

And it happens again.

AMEX card once more hacked with exactly similar modus operandi which was used last year. First Email address is changed. Few OTP messages were received but luckily no transactions happened

Thanks @rainmaker for your response.
Amex is just covering up such activities casually by refunding the fraud transactions. No real action by them.

Any new reports? I got some suspicious attempts on my card earlier today. Nothing happened but I have raised block and renew card request

Thankfully, nothing on my card for last 2 years. I have kept OTP on email option disabled.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

How can we disable email otp?
