I recently changed a new Amex card before a month as my previous card was not machine readable. I was especially using that in Aliexpress , Airtel money, Udio, Citrus, Kites and paytm. Though i dont doubt on Airtel money and paytm because i did not store my cards there, however i stored my card on aliexpress as i order so many things there.
Today i received a SMS from Amex that my card was used in uber for pre-authorization for $1 twice. After 2 minutes i got another sms that my card amount of $8500 was not approved as it exceeded the credit limit.
Immediately I reported the issue to amex who reversed the $2 ($1+$1) on uber and blocked my card. I was literally annoyed with this issue though its a small amount, what would have happened if it was a large sum of money within my credit limit.
I advise friends not to store cards anywhere in online platform as hackers are everywhere to steal the data.
Note: I never used my card for offline transactions. I also reported this issue to Aliexpress security team through email who said that they will investigate this further.
Further Update: I see this is something to do with our indian wallets such as Mobikwik, Airtel money, Kites, UDIO and citrus wallet. Further updates awaited.
Update 2: American Express CC told me that all the charges done on Uber are reversed and they are hearing this issue from so many customers. 4th attempt of $250 was attempted on my card but it was blocked by that time.
I feel this is something to do with udio and citrus wallet. Because now I can remember that I stored my card in mobikwik, citrus and udio

I guess it is not through some website but completely random since amex doesn’t have a two factor/otp authentication I guess?

I do delete the card as well except in case of citrus where I didn’t find option to delete in the app.

My one HDFC and one CITI CC were also misused..From both the cards Amazon Prime was purchased and $10.99 deducted from both the cards in 2 subsequent months…Later I blocked my both CCs..
Samething happen to my icici debit card, later i got the refund. Just log into Amazon.com from ur Amazon.in credentials then u can see the Amazon prime subscription. Contact Amazon.com customer care to cancel prime then they will refund fully

As of now , we have reported on Amex. Better to be safe on other variants too. Please delete all your stored cards in all the wallets.

How to delete cards from mobikwik… i couldn’t find any option for the same… any help is appreciated. 
You can login to website to delete the cards.
I am deleting my card details from all e-commerce websites. Not safe anymore, today AMEX next time it will be VISA, Mastercard or Rupay. 
Exactly bro. But its difficult for ppl who used Multi accounts as they need to login to each and every account to delete it.
I logged in and deleted all my stored cards.
Fortunately my transaction failed in udio with Amex card. I tried multiple times and then lost hopes, that it’s not going to work.
Udio stopped accepting amex cards from the recent update and earlier it blocked some amex cards.

Are you sure bro since my other Amex friends who do not use any wallets did not report this issue.
But only limited amount of cards (Indian) work without 2FA authentication and Amex being the most commonly used card for international transactions is being targeted,but what does it have to do with the cards getting stolen from mobile wallets. Why can’t they just brute force the card number since there is no authentication at all.
Bro, I haven’t come across ANY Indian credit card which allows forex transactions but does NOT work without 2FA on foreign sites.
As for brute forcing, they do need the expiry as well as the CVV to perform transactions. It’s an obvious security breach at some site/wallet. Let’s just wait for announcements in a couple of days.

Your card are secured & stored in Indian Wallets securely & no one can even extract it.
And if you are talking about Credit card hacking. Did you ever tried your CC for money withdrawal? {OP- Tell me did u done money withdrawal}
And one more point there are person involved in Hacking .
And the problem lies with Aliexpress, they are surely a looter & don’t use any Heavy amount money card there.
Case doesn’t bind to those type. Recently during monthly payout of employee of several comapnies, most bank account hacked & their montly payout went away – BOI account holder mostly & some other banks A/C holders salary person
And one thing i don’t understand why international site don’t have OTP verification.

Few months back there was a glitch, your email id is enough to get card details from citrus, I posted that as a comment on a D&D thread and removed within few mins

visa/master & upcoming Rupay credit cards are best.. its accept all websites/apps.
Do you know amex is also safe. It depends on the offers, points etc. Fyi, I swiped my amex card abroad and it asked for pin where as my visa and MasterCard got swiped just like that. So it’s not about the variant but it’s all about how we use it and where.

No I feel it’s not udio because I did not save my amex card on udio.
Don’t the CC transactions need OTP verification to be completed..? I don’t own a CC so don’t know this..
And BTW for all transactions the card details (except CVV) are saved in database even if we choose not to (if at all an option is there). That save details option is for our convenience only, like for a situation you don’t have the physical card available but you can make the transaction with the details saved but you need to remember CVV for that..
most of the international sites don’t need OTP or 2 factor authentication. And if your bank enforces to use 2 factor authentication on all kind of txn performed on your cc ( domestic as well as international) then your txn would simply fail on international sites as the international portal doesn’t know what 2 factor authentication is. I read this in some article 3 years ago.
Credit card or debit card
Either Debit or credit, its better to remove the cards from saved wallets.
I will suggest to use Virtual cards for transactions on foreign sites and get international transaction blocked on dc/cc.
Or set some limit on your cards like only 10k,5k can be used for international transaction purpose.
Few days back I did transaction worth 149rs. On amazon India site with my Amex card & surprisingly It didn’t ask for OTP, after entering card no. & 4 digit vcc no. Amount directly debited from cc & my transaction was successful. Even I was like how it can be possible !!!
One odd thing with Amex card -
Recently I recharged for Jio starter pack and swiped my card at Mswipe machine. When it asked for pin, I entered wrong pin but surprisingly the transaction went through. I am going to check with Amex folks, how it happened.

amex seems to be badly hit, I had another deluge of txns on my amex supplementary card an hour back, again from uber.
Blocked all my gold cards and requested replacements.
Do you have any idea where you used those supplementary cards?
While HDFC allows Netsafe the flaw there is you have to enable international txns for creating netsafe cards, it’s a hassle to remember to turn off international txns after creating netsafe card.
You can now set several limits – per day/week, per transaction, per cycle, transactions/day etc

One thing I would like to tell as most of you are telling that the transactions are being done on Uber.
Now a Days few Indian people have make a business from Uber and they are doing card binning to get a free ride on uber. Getting a free ride on uber have made them so blind that they are now not even capable of differentiating whats Illegal (and can land them to jail) and whats not!

See basic formula , All these Indian wallets are kind of startup only or they give Zero f***s to security! So no matter what they say DONOT belive them and NEVER let thrm save you CC Details!
Even if u do not save your card details, while transacting they still cache your card details… So inturn they anyways have all the card details… If they want, they can utilize it in any which way they want….
