Amex Charged me Fee on the charge card!

So, I have Amex chargecard. I have spent around 2.3L on the card for this annual (Dec’19-20). I thought they won’t charge a fee as looking at my spending which obviously acc to me is quite good.

I checked my statement and called them and they transferred me to fee waiver dept. This might be the worst ever service I have ever gotten from Amex. So the guy said 2 things he can do for me :

1. > Waive off 75% fee with GST. No actions needed.
2. > Waive off 100% fee with GST if I spend 60k on my card within 3 months.

After talking and arguing so much considering I use the card often and very nicely with meeting target’s, he still didn’t budge so I opted for 1st option. I could have gone for 2nd option but my spending usually is alot around Diwali time which is not gonna come anytime soon so wasn’t sure. This might have been the worst customer service I have gotten from Amex since last 3 years.

Charge card was never free and always had a fee of 4.5k + taxes.

You can consider getting the mrcc on it for free if that offer is available. With 4 transactions every month for 1K you will get 12K on it by year end, which can very well set off the full fee

I have MRCC as a companion (free) card that goes along with Charge Gold card. Basically as long as I have charge card, I can use MRCC for free.

Those are the standard options given by amex for charge waiver. Nothing to be done here. Op has ro decide to opt for either of the options sweat_smile

you could have opt for both. i had faced similar issue. i got 75% instant waiver and remaining upon reaching the target.
and if at all u had any insurance or investment opportunity in next 3 months, you would reach 60k target. plus that spend will also count towards your next years spend basedd waiver.

The guy said I can’t opt for both schemes. Either I can go for 75% waiver or I can go for 100% waiver with 60k spending’s.

Did they mention any expected spends for100% wavier without these targets in the first place?

Nope. Basically you use the card for a year and then call in and ask and hope that their system gives you best options. There is no criteria. It’s a blind luck game.

it depends on your account history and so on . I am holding platinum travel card and gold charge card, they have taken 10000 points to compensate fee for platinum travel card. For gold charge card they have given the full waiver.
Yearly spends on platinum travel card around 4.5 lakhs, Gold charge card around 30k.
However last 2 years i spent more than 10 lakhs on gold charge card and similar amount on platinum travel card.
Usually they give full waiver if you spend more than 4 lakhs on gold charge card, However these policies change every year with amex.

10lacs is huge amount – you could have gone for much better card like Axis FK, SBI Simply Click, IndusInd Pinnacle or premium cards HDFC DCB..
How gold charge is beneficial?
PlatinumTravel beyond usage beyond 4lacs gives no benefits

Citi usually don’t waive off charges. if you are not using much better close it as there are not much offers on Citi except on few occasions which is rare in an year.
