Hi fellow Dimers,
Would like to hear your suggestions with my current scenario. I am currently located in Hyderabad. I bought an old car (~16 years) around 6 months ago for ~1L to use it as a backup and for learning purpose for my family. The registration is valid till 2026 (20 year validity). The car has been working smoothly till now. Yesterday while driving, it suddenly slowed down and completely came to a halt. I got it towed and now it is currently in authorized service centre-Hyundai. The service person informed that the engine head has to be replaced along with couple of parts which could cost upto 40K. I am wondering whether it is worth to shell out this amount for such an old car
My question is what are the options available for me now:
1. Should I get it repaired by paying 40K
2. Should I get it repaired from a local repair shop for a lesser price? the service guy said a quick fix is not possible but we never know
3. Should I get it scrapped? If so, what would be the best possible way to do it? Any manufacturers in Hyderabad is offering discounts for exchanging old cars for scrap? the recent policies by Govt for vehicle scrappage looks lucrative but I am not sure whether any manufacturers/dealers have started implementing it
Sorry for the long post, any suggestions/ideas/personal experiences would be highly appreciated

If anyone of you want to scrap your car? Visit https://cerorecyclin...m/
I scrapped my 15yr+ Santro 2-3 years back which was in working condition but the registration was expired. Cero team pickup the vehicle from home and scrapped with proof and pics send via email. Got 22k for the car value.
Here’s my lovely car after scrapped. It still breaks my heart cause she served me well for 15 years without any fuss/issues. Got i10 nios sportz to replace Santro.
Cropped to hide details:
Something new India... may be Tata's are first to start a facility.
Following.
Get it repaired from a trusted local garage, and use it for next 3 years.
Final update:
Got the car repaired by a local mechanic. He sent the engine head to lathe machine shop and got it corrected, replaced the valves and timing belt. Bill came around 17K. I know it is still bit high as he haven't replaced the part but it is less compared to what the showroom service guy was quoting. The car is working smooth now
Since your RC is still valid for 3 more years - Go for option 2, you can definitely get it repaired for less than 15k from a local shop assuming by replacing child parts or some jugaad when compared with authorized service center. They have contacts to source used good parts from salvaged cars, thats how the scrap business works.
Scrappage policy published by the govt. is itself scrap, there are no proper guidelines or incentives. I only see few cities where the manufacturers like Mahindra have setup their recycling units, nothing I can find in Hyderabad yet.
