Closing credit card account

Looks like closing credit card account(Not the credit card but the unique account number that is linked to the customer) is more painful than applying for new credit card.

it is very tough to reach customer care in person, emails replies takes ages(may be COVID thing) I am kind of following up with SBI for more than a month now to close my Credit card account .. in case of SC it was bit easy ..just an email to nodal officer solved it (yet to see it reflecting in CIBIL report)

Background
1. I had SBI Credit card(Gold and More) way back in 2007..was decent card with statement cashback latter they changed from cashback to point based stuffs. I stopped using it and never updated by Address ..end result renewed card never reached me(2011 or 2012) . CIBIL record still shows this account as active
2. Had Standard chartered card . Again it was good card initially but latter those guys introduced caps on the cashback. Called and closed by credit card in 2015 or so…CIBIL record still shows this account as Active.

Ok, new thing learnt. Any issue if its left like that?
May be, if you go back for card again, then its easy for them to connect, hence not closing.

Dont know…
But I was not comfortable with such active accounts on CIBIL report.

I think if u cancel the CC , it’s associated account automatically gets closed. I closed my one amex card , it doesn’t shows up in my cibil as active.

Must be depended on company to company …
I also have one HSBC closed CC account on my records. (Irony I never even got this card).
Applied- Approved- Dispatched (Courier company messed it up and it went back)
