Do's and Don’ts Before a Blood/Urine Tests - Health Checkup /Lab Tests
FASTING:
Fasting blood test: You don't eat or drink anything except water usually for 8 to 12 hours before getting the blood test done.
SLEEP :
Make sure you get enough sleep the night before the blood test.
WATER :
Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
KEEP-CALM :
Calm down and relax for 10-15 minutes before the withdrawal of the blood.
FOODS:
Avoiding specific foods and drinks such as cooked meats, herbal tea, or alcohol
Don’t eat heavy, fatty, and fried food items 1-2 days before the test day
Making sure not to overeat the day before a test
NO SMOKING: Before 6-8 hrs before the tests
EXERCISE:
Avoiding specific behaviors such as strenuous exercise or sexual activity
MEDS/SUPPLIMENTS:
Avoiding certain medicines and/or supplements. Be sure to talk to your provider about what you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements.
Do not stop any medication without consulting the doctor.
AVOID-TEST DURING MESTRUAL CYCLE
Avoid conduction of tests in a menstrual period – For females, if they are undergoing there periodic menstrual cycle, it is advisable to skip the conduction of tests during that period as well as four days before and after the aforementioned duration. During the period of the menstrual cycle, the urine analysis cannot be done properly due to blood contamination, which will hamper the result of the tests.
