Quitting anything requires self-control. So, if you want to quit smoking, don't buy it again. That's the only way. Nicotine tablets are a waste of money. Instead, change your eating habits and spend on candies, chocolates, fruits, juices, shakes, etc. to get rid of the urge to smoke. You won't need these diversions for long though. Perhaps a couple of months or 3 max. Then you'll be on your own. Start exercising so that you know what you achieve by avoiding fags.

Buddy Buddy,
How to manage withdrawal symptoms ? (These aren't under self control/urge)
T: It's not that easy.

Don't do it outright just keep a count do odd even system one day try to leave smoke next day average make a plan to quit in 6 months
I don't know any solution .Many methods available if follow one path is ok . But everything depends on you . Everyday is new day . But you can't force anyone to do that or this . You have to take your own decision. In my neighbour my close relative smokes it occurs that person problem but he don't hear anyone do what whatever he wants to do . So I think what you do or not do depends on you . You have independent life so choose what u want to do or not want to do . In general as per my experience if any habit if you want to cut this in one day u will be more addict of that habit for longer days . So take slow steps in cutting habit without disturbing your peace of mind . You have good sign that you think of it seriously. So I think you can do it .
In my case.
After taking antidepressants it killed my urge of smoking.
Seems like I was never fond of smoking but the depression was the trigger and that's the depression that made me smoke.
Previously I wanted to quit smoking several times but never succeed.
But after taking medication forget urge I can never think of smoking.
So look into yourself if you got some kinda trigger, eliminate that trigger, this is the most effective way.
Imo most of the times this is not the addiction that makes you smoke again and again but a certain trigger that makes you do it.

Cannot speak for others, but from self observation, experience: nothing but 𝐰⃨𝐢⃨𝐥⃨𝐥⃨ 𝐩⃨𝐨⃨𝐰⃨𝐞⃨𝐫⃨ ... i would say.
.
Because, "remorse" certainly 😪did not😔 work enough.
.
I mean, elder family member DESPISED it so much, since forever
that even the promoters/owner of the company that my family member worked with.. NEVER smoked in the same room (in which my elder family member would be).
Even the multi millionaire owners of the business would apologise and excuse themselves out of meeting: to smoke.
This was just because Mr. XYZ (my family member) was famously known not to consume alcohol and for his utmost displeasure of stuff, tobacco or any kind of smoking.
.
Another family member almost got under the wheels of a speeding SUV, trying to follow me to the corner were I would go for the fag.
.
These should have been enough to create ample remorse AND SHAME.
But apparently either did not create or enough guilt was not there.
.
Thankfully, I myself despised smoking TO THE CORE.. all my life.
Even got into verbal duals with burly💪🏽 people.. when asking them to step away.. if they had to smoke.
Step away from where we sat in the canteen or elsewhere too.
.
So basically I had started it.. as some form of 'self harm' only.
.
Never even properly got to 'correctly' smoking.
Even ladies around would wonder that how come when they smoke, not even much lip gloss is there on the butt.. but I would crib about getting the end soggy (with my saliva).
.
.
Yes, I too tried often, after 3-4 years.
Got to a point where could keep off for a fortnight or more too.
.
Then, as others mention, it seemed like withdrawal symptoms... or to me.. what felt like taking 'vengeance' on self.. used to kick in.
.
Getting into tiffs with any family members or other issues in professional life.. and it felt like i 'had to' (do that self harm).
.
.
Finally, besides will power.. i think i can somewhat credit 'faith'.. as what helped me.
.
I am not religious. And in various matured discussions, i was told by others that i am closer to being a deist or already am one.
.
However, my understanding of 'faith', and RTC (reference to context) was in a generic yet philosophical manner.
.
One can have faith in oneself, some other being (person, other animals, birds) or even objects.
.
I mean, not objects as in stones being treated as representative of a higher power.. bur objects.
Umm like a parachute.. when one is in a free fall or engaged in adventure sports.
.
.
So yeah.. somehow 'will power' and 'faith' (and maybe finally enough remorse and guilt) are what worked for me.
.
May be i did concede myself ro some 'higher power' to pull myself out of the rout that I was in.
I do the same, did the same during all of past two three years too.
When the same family members, close ones did not even once had themselves tested for coronavirus antibodies and let unmasked pigs in and generally did not use sanitiser to clean the phones, key fobs after every trip out.
.
Yes, I said i am sort of irreligious.
But that has more to do with staying off of 'rituals', public display of faith/ show business (show baazi).
So i could be a (as per those se people in those discussions) a deist while still relying upon or submitting self for that (unknown?) higher power to see me through it.
.
.
As @Ransome mentioned.. having distractions (in the form of mouth fresheners like fennel seeds, dhaniya daal, laung/cloves, cardamom/illaichi) did help a lot.
.
Actually I decided to not 'spend' on other products.
Thus cut down on Centre Fresh or other gums, mints totally.
(Never used those fake, useless nicotine gums. Never vaped either).
.
One side effect was that I switched to having coffee.
A 'lot' of it.
Even prior to quitting fully. I was already often on 8-10 (small cups) of filter coffee, black coffee.
(Basically I always disliked the milk and sugar syrup type coffee which relatives, hawkers served. So had been into black coffee since ages).
.
This 'distraction' of black coffee too got a bit out of hand.
In professional work-days.. often skipped meals entirely.
(In favour of upto 28-30 cups of steaming hot black coffee or nice filter coffee if Ramesh anna was around).
.
Then Barista, other outlets too gradually upped prices and I too.. generally cut down on coffee.
.
As of past 7-8 years.. I have ENTIRELY given up coffee too.
This was just to challenge myself and few tiffs with others in the family over my coffee habit and their jibes that I was now 'addicted' to coffee.
.
.
In hindsight, I feel that.. since I never liked smoking and rather used it as a 'self harm'/ retaliatory mechanism.. it must have helped me more (to move on).
.
Saw another relative (an uncle) quit smoking after 40-45 years.. after health and age related issues kicked in.. and (his wife) my aunt broke down.
.
I was never into that psychobabble that ohh i cannot have my bowel movements without a fag🚬.
Did depend on coffee for it, during my teenage years and later. But now that too is past me.
I used to be a heavy smoker for around 10 years and now completely smoke free for 5 years straight. It's extremely difficult initially. I wasn't able to quit in one go. I remember once I quit and then again started smoking within a couple of months. Many times I failed within one week or a couple of days. But what matters is at last I was successful. There is an application named 'smoke free' by David Crane which was helpful to me. I hope you will be able to quit. It's not impossible. Don't lose hope.
The fastest way is to stop being with people who smoke first and talk to your family members about this and see if they can join you and help you (they will help in Reminding you again and again) Make it loud and clear to everyone around you so they will call you out when you try to smoke next time. Also avoid your go to place from where you buy it from. Start taking cold showers and repeat to yourself (you will not smoke again) when under the cold shower this is a daily chek for you and make sure this is the only time you think about it if you find yourself craving eat some sweets that may help with the temptation. And last and the best way forget that there is anythig called as cigarettes in this world once you do that you wont have to fight with it and just accept that there is nothing called as cigarettes in my world its a psychological hack to help you stop obsessing over the thing you want to quit.
Hope this was helpful and im sure after readig this post you will forget all about cigarettes just like you forgot about your early childhood days
I believe this is the game of will power, if u want to, u will for sure.
Seek medical advice or take help from professional.
Never tried smoking.. so NO idea
