Is my Vi talktime balance lapsed?

I had forgotten about a Vi no. that had 1590 balance. Last OG was on 7th July. Yesterday when I re-inserted it in mobile upon dialling *199# to check balance it shows “Amount Due: 0. Due date:X”.
I placed an OG call and it went through. Recharged Rs 10 via Amazon and received message from Vi that current balance is now 1597. In the app it shows the same.
This is one of those nos. in my possession in which OG continues to remain active despite no Smart recharge etc ever.
AFAIK after 90 days of no usage the operator can usurp the balance and a further 15 days grace period is given for no. retention but the balance is forfeited. Vi had activated some pack for free earlier. Could that be the reason I can still make OG calls and it’s in grace period?

Under what plan were your last OG ? Were you using any unlimited plan.. ? It seems your balance in indeed intact.

When they first implemented this per month compulsory recharge thing I had more than 600 in main balance and my outgoing worked for a very long time(using that main balance) without recharging any 35/49 type of pack.

This year my Vi number had last active OG was in June and I stopped recharging it after that but even few days back when I checked my main balance was still intact.

Not recharged any UL/Smart pack ever. Outgoing validity last I checked was 2028. Ditto for another no. For 2 others it’s ending in December 2021.

Same thing happened with my all BSNL sim. Main balance got vanished. *Incoming validity was expired (7-10 days ago).

At least that was communicated to the user albeit in a not so timely manner IIRC. This is the only reason I haven’t ported any of my nos. to BSNL yet. More and more I am inclining towards just using the remaining balance and let them die at least in case of my secondary nos.

The rule is if not recharged or called from that number in 90 days then operator can deduct 20 rupees(I get deduction notification from jio for a number i have as number retention charge). After that when the balance falls below 20 rupees the operator deducts the entire balance and gives a 15 days grace period

Vi and airtel often deducts balance for auto debit. Vi deducts ₹128 and the problem is even after you stop auto debit. They will give a 7 days free pack which allows outgoing calls and 1 gb/ day and then again start deducting ₹128. So you gotta stop auto debit every time that happens.

I am aware of the Rs 20 debit in case of no usage since 90 days but the TRAI rules are a tad ambiguous and leave quite a lot to the discretion of the operator. Previously in case of no usage for a period occasionally the balance couldn’t be retrieved for sometime but this time it’s entirely different almost as if it was a postpaid connection.
BTW one dimer had reported much earlier that Vodafone had terminated his connection for non-usage amounting to just 60-odd days!
P.S. I keep making OG calls but no balance is being debited. I am gonna try making a call to a Premium no. and check.

Even if you are not recharging, Vi will not expire your sim or sim balance. Neither they are activating any plan on their own. After every 15 days, they automatically activate 2-days plan free with 100mb (earlier they were doing 7-days plan) so incoming is always active.

What’s happening for chortel deduction now?
My OG is expiring today..Just now got a SMS that 45 auto deduction will happen tonight (which was strange)
I remembered last month they took off IC after 36 days. Later after 12-15 days they activated OG for 3 days & then deducted 45 after that.

No auto-debit in 2 of my Airtel nos. in over a month. Now it mentions only 79. *567*49# doesn’t work anymore. At least 19 pack does work even after IC expiry.

smile Nothing new in this. Since Sept 2020, they are giving 1GB/day for 7 days on idle numbers every month. I have 3 idle sims of Vi and keep getting same on all three. Good thing is it happens on different days so help me with 21 days free Internet.

All this started when Vodafone Idea started losing customers after merger. They have lost 9 crore customers since then so they aren’t deactivating sims and also giving freebies to keep them active but anyday they can deactivate without intimation so keep Rs.20+ in main balance.

@limbo I’m amazed your balance of Rs.1590 was intact as I lost balance to VAS activations even when it was as low as Rs.6. Vi keep activating VAS even when there is no service validity. So I called CC and they let me know about VAS blacklisting and activated it. After that no balance decutions. But it stops after 180 days so we have to call again to activate VAS Blacklist. rolleyes

I did the same albeit I had to escalate to the Apellate authority. No deductions since December 2020. I don’t even keep track of them anymore.
Unauthorized VAS/WAP activations were particularly bad from March 2020 onwards. Previously I didn’t have to exert much to get a refund at least.

Not in anyone of my nos. Only decent offer is Rs 99 UL with 28 days validity but it’s in a no. where OG is active despite no validity recharge in years so of no use for now.

They have enabled some service @ 33 rs fr 14 days and eaten ur main balance. Did that to me. Never recharged even to port out. Bunch of thieves.

If this post was meant for me fortunately enough that wasn’t the case. After a couple of days the correct balance was displayed. And yes Vi in particular the erstwhile Vodafone was in my experience the worst operator by far when it came to unauthorised VAS/WAP auto activations. After badgering the Apellate authority back in late 2020 they blacklisted my nos. for VAS/WAP services. Since then no issues. It’s supposed to be temporary, max. 6 months post which it has to be enabled again.
