I have a account with canara bank
Which is rarely used for withdrawals or payments
There is a charge of ₹18 being levied evry quarter on my account
When I complaint that to the bank branch they told that its compulsory charge.
Is there any way to disable SMS alert Charge online?

Transaction sms like atm withdrawal, cash deposit, online transaction OTP is mandatory from RBI and are totally free. I opted out sms alert from all my savings account and i still get all transactions related sms. Complain on twitter and tag RBI along with other public bank like SBI, BOB. Just tell me or force them to disable it at any cost. this is new way of squeezing money from customer.

They are just looting customers!

Canara bank seem to be following this RBI notification. Many banks do offer free sms alerts for mandatory transactions but there doesn't seem to be any RBI rule/guideline about it (Just that charges need to be based on usage)
Banks must ask their customers to mandatorily register for SMS alerts and, wherever available, register for e-mail alerts, for electronic banking transactions. The SMS alerts shall mandatorily be sent to the customers, while email alerts may be sent, wherever registered.

I had account in Bank of Baroda which was very rarely used. I dropped them a letter at their branch asking them to stop the SMS service and they did the same. Used to charge Rs15 + GST per quarter

Canara Bank and Central Bank are two PSUs who loot via unstoppable SMS charges. I haven't been charged SMS charges by any other bank except these two.

Same is the case with me for PNB and SBI savings bank account. How do I stop these services more efficiently as visiting the branch is 😤
Also, I'm thinking of closing my PNB savings account, only thing stopping me is RuPay Platinum DC I've from them which comes in handy for Amazon Add Money offer monthly.
Does SBI provide RuPay Platinum DC too? If yes, will get a RuPay Platinum DC from them and close my PNB savings account which I don't see is of any use.
P.S. I've HDFC, SBI and PNB savings account and everything happens with HDFC Bank savings account only. Then I've savings account with Paytm Payments Bank, digibank by DBS.
Suggestions please!
Well I filled in a special request form in Central Bank a couple of months ago and since then 95 days have passed and no quarterly SMS charges deducted. Filled a similar request at Canara Bank too. Let's see if they take charges still after their quarter ends. No other bank is taking any SMS charges from me as of now. (Haven't tried Axis though )
Unfortunately, Central Bank just took ₹17 SMS charges today despite submitting the multi-purpose form to not take SMS charges as they add no value to me and basic credit/debit transaction SMSes are supposed to be free anyway. Central and Canara are the only 2 banks where SMS charges can't be stopped. Other banks ALL have it optional.
PSUs se kyahi expect krsakte hai
