In another example of cartelization among bankers, several banks have increased or started imposing charges for transaction alerts through SMS as well as for mobile banking. As usual, private lenders have taken the lead, which soon would be followed by nationalized banks

No Idea bro. All I know SBI has stolen 15 Rs without even informing me
Edit: Just called Toll free 1800 425 3800 and checked. They said this is Rs 15 Charge for SMS alerts on the ATM card. for the Quarter ending June. when asked how to stop ? he said Please contact Bank.
Edit2: SMS alert on XXXXXXXXX3, disabled successfully.
Disabled via online banking. Dont want this paid service anymore.
given the rising incidents of frauds, it is unlikely customers will stop the SMS alert service as it enables them to track activity in their account.

I unsubscribed from my alert services from Kotak today. Well I haven’t been charged anything in my account for alerts from SBI.
I’m not paying single penny from next quarter.I have never got sms for transactions less than 5000.This is totally unnecessary deduction.👎👎👎

Please understand that transaction SMS cannot be charged as they are a regulatory compliance. You can only be charged for SMS that are sent for other reasons, like regular balance intimation, etc.
So don’t prevent yourself in unsubscribing to these usurious charges. You should continue to get SMS for transactions. So the safety aspect is taken care of. Also, email alerts should be free. If net is always on, on your phone, you can count on emails for transaction, balance and whatever other alerts.
I unsubscribed few days ago, when I saw the new charges in the statement. These banks are not even giving enough advance notice. RBI has decided to leave us to their mercy.
How to stop SMS alerts in SBI? PNB also started charging.

LoL, Bro I understand the risks. Dont worry I keep getting Email alerts. I rarely use my SBI account, I have a/c at other banks. So No point in spending money on inactive accounts.
and it is 15×4= 60 Rs Per anumm.

Agree with you bro, but looks like the SMS is an ALL or NOTHING service. Not sure if there is a way to get these SMS free. RBI card transactional guideline is Banks should send SMS. I am not sure if it says “FREE” SMS . Can someone clarify it from official sources.

Welcome Bro,
Finally Aaj TOI ko bhi pata chal gaya ki SMS charges lag gaye hain.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/ind...
“The country’s largest bank, which has about 18.5 crore customers, did not specify whether the charges are for special alerts only or even debit or credit card transaction alerts sent as per regulatory guidelines will also come under this. "

Got it bro. Thanks.
Disabled for my own account where there is hardly any transaction going on.
But having second thought about doing it in my mother’s salary account. This is a very vital info that we need in this case.
Is there any such disable option for IOB? I’ve a useless account with them too though they have not charged any such thing so far (given the fact that it’s the last day of June).
Increase in sms charges by the mobile networks cannot be given as a valid reason for this detestable act. Can SBI not take care of such a simple expense on their part? Kya kehte hain Barood Uncle?

Try their customer care number. May be they do have an option or may be the call operator may do it for you.
