Friends laptop models hp ab032tx and hp ab522tx with time and windows updates booting time became slow. rest everything is ok. please help
SSD
- which ssd will fit in these models? which brand? capacity? how is service and durability?

1. 2.5" SATA SSD. 500GB/1TB Samsung 870 EVO or Crucial MX500 (There’s no M.2 expansion slot of M.2/NVMe SSDs). About HDD/SSD via caddy, the performance depends on the SATA connector, HDD should be fine for SATA II or III but if you’re using an SSD in the caddy which uses a SATA II connector, then it won’t work at its rated speed
2. Faster storage is more important than the RAM speed IMO (be it PC or Phone). These laptops got two RAM slots and if its 1×8, then u get an additional 8GB stick
3. Caddy (2.5") size depends on the the optical drive (7/9.5/12.7mm depending on the thickness of the optical drive). And its fixed
4. Get a precision screen driver kit (I have the Mi Electric one)

As far as I understand, when the OS installation happens, most files are unzipped or gets created. And whenever a file is stored in memory, the way it gets stored in the storage changed based on the storage type/file system like the sectors in case of HDD, and blocks in case of SSD. Both sectors and blocks are quite different.
This explanation got a lot messy than what I thought to put.
Bottom line for Op: Go for fresh installation, my recommendation is not to clone when migrating from HDD to SSD.
Depending on budget get Kingston A400<Crucial MX500<Samsung Evo 860/870 in that order, all three brands have official service centres in India. My laptop with older processor than these 2 laptops has sata 3 ports on both hdd & dvd drive slot so most likely same will be the case for these laptops. Use ssd in caddy fitted in dvd drive slot considering long term heath scenario of hdd.
Ram makes mobiles faster because the fixed storage in mobiles is already flash/ssd while in case of PC if ssd is not already there then no matter how much ram you add it will always be slower than a pc with ssd because entire operating system sits in hdd.
Get this caddy, it will be fixed & to take it out you will have to open the back panel of the laptop.

Thermal paste need repasting after around 1-2 years depending on your usage.
For cloning use macrium reflect free to clone C drive to ssd, it will be best to use the ssd in a usb enclosure while doing this to avoid any issues. You should anyway have one such case for troubleshooting & data rescue.

Once the cloning is done disconnect ssd in usb enclosure & then install it via caddy & at the time of booting go to laptop bios boot menu & select ssd windows install as the boot drive. For even more precaution, disconnect/take out hdd before installing ssd caddy & don’t install hdd until laptop successfully boots from ssd in caddy in dvd drive.

@andromeda and @LIMBO paji gave good reasons to not clone hdd to ssd but problem is that we will have to notify employer and engage in approval to get company softwares installed again which will take long time and lots of paperwork so planning for cloning otherwise will have to stick to hdd

Tag, I'm also looking to replace CD drive with Caddy in my Dell laptop.
Cloning is safe, I've done it few times using a third party software. Better to buy a Samsung SSD and use their Data Migration Software to make it simple. Otherwise you can use any third party software.

Bhai as per these sites you will need a 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Brands! Nahh. Brands don’t matter much at least not with SATA ones. Their longevity depends upon usage.

Depends upon the HDD. But a normal SATA SSD is way faster than its 7200 RPM wala HDD.

Honda Activa will certainly burn 99 octane fuel but it wont be able to take advantage of it. We talk about monarchy vs socialism vs democratic stuff vs republic. Computers have become a republic. You need certain components. You assemble em and put an OS. My 30k laptop has the same OS running on it as yours 95k laptop does. So, after a threshold a user wont be noticing any differences in usage. In mobile phones things are radical. Different mobile manufacturers are opting for different tech. So, they are in monarchy regime. They are yet to graduate into a republic. And as per usage RAM’s need will be decided.

PC’s most of the time have a 128-bit wide memory bus whereas in mobile devices it’s usually 64-bit wide. Hence faster RAM is beneficial to make up for the shortfall to some extent.
Secondly GPUs in mobile devices don’t have a separate memory pool all to themselves unlike discrete PC GPUs. Memory bandwidth plays an disproportionately important role in graphics intensive workloads.
Lastly the memory controllers in x86 CPUs are more sophisticated and are able to get much closer to the theoretical bandwidth.
PC’s also benefit from faster memory but it’s benefits are mostly limited to integrated GPUs and workloads like WinRAR etc.

Bro,
1. For, windows 10 / 11, 8GB of RAM is at least required. As system itself consume 2-3 gb RAM. Make sure you have 8 GB ram.
2. Buy 250gb Samsung ssd. Its R/W speed is better compared to other brands. You may use caddy, but in my Lenovo laptop, I had to make adjustments in caddy to match SSD connectors with laptops. Make sure you change download directory to HDD, as SSD have limited number of writes in TBs. Check ssd warranty.
3. Use Air blower to dust off internals. That is sufficient. Thermal paste change is only required when laptop / pc keeps rebooting on heating during game or other heavy work. Dont change paste for now.
4. Use windows ultimate tweaker to disable windows update(must) and other irrelevant processes, services. Windows updates just spoil windows over time and cause booting issues. When you need update, do clean install with iso + pendrive. Once a year with windows April / may update. Use rufus. In Additional, make your Wifi, lan metered connection through regedit(search google). It will make significant increase in internet browsing.
For now, clean install latest windows 10 iso. Windows 11 is not so good for now. you may use Next windows 11 release( April / may 22). Or use Windows 11 insider latest iso. Or just use latest windows 10 64 bit iso for now.
With all these, you will get faster booting, faster program loading, web browsing.
But no change will be in gaming fps / encoding / video processing etc. These require CPU, GPU upgrade.
5. If you want to use cloner, acronis is good. You can clone, as only 1 part (ssd) has been changed.

mafia 2 used to run very well. played it two months ago.it ran well but the fan speed increased a lot and it started making lots of noise. temperature also raise but not much as it was winters.is it because of dust or thermal paste?laptop has never been opened for cleaning even once.

Don’t need model specific videos for cleaning CPU and applying thermal paste. Its the same thing for almost all of the devices ( Remove the heat sink, wipe off the thermal paste with cotton swabs + IPA, Re-apply thermal paste ). I think the two videos you linked previously covered this
And the laptop is 7 years old, dump this old HDD into caddy via SATA I/II (For media storage) and get an SSD for the boot drive (via laptop’s SATA III port)
And Transfer speed depends on the slowest drive (read/write)
You don’t need to bother about endurance in practically any SSD over 250GB. Most seem to be rated from 160TBW to 500TBW. Use the HDD as little as possible only for bulk storage of dumb media. I actually copy stuff from the HDD to the SSD before playback. It’s the HDD that has to babied not SSDs. If and when the current HDD in my laptop dies (developed 1 Current Pending Sector error about 9 months ago ) it will the last time I ever use mechanical storage in my laptops.

Any ram not sold in a set. 2 or more different sticks or sets.
Sets
Ram is identical to each other. Sets can have 2, 4 or 8 sticks in them. Sold in the same package.
sticks in that set are only tested to work with other sticks in that set.
Individual sticks
Single sticks aren’t tested to run with any other sticks, its luck if they will run at right speed and timings with another stick.
The more non matched sticks you put into a system, the more chances of BSOD or errors you didn’t have before, starting.
if you want 64gb of ram, buy a set of either 4 × 16gb or 2 × 32gb as they should work. It is the safest option** and may work out faster in long run as no need to replace memory that doesn’t get along with the other sticks.
If you buy 2 single sticks from the same shop on same day and they both have same specs, there is probably a good chance they are using the same memory chips inside and same timings.
Buying 2 single sticks on different days may not match up. they may have different memory on them.
Not all memory stick makers make their own memory. Many seem to actually use Micron and Samsung, I think Crucial use their own.
@invisible007249 nowadays as long as you are buying same brand/same model ram from same place then it doesn’t matter much even if buying a few weeks apart. In fact even buying different brand ram with matching frequency there is very small chance of facing issues.

friends with ur kind guidance installed ssd in ab032tx and works ok.ordered two ssd.one was cracked so got new.the other laptop ab522tx was opened and just cleaned normally and then closed.planned to install ssd this weekend.

Try other touchpad driver version(ELAN) on HP site(if it isn’t compatible then installer will give error anyway but do uninstall synaptics driver version first & reboot before trying it) but before that try with ubuntu live linux usb to rule out any hardware issue.

The touchpad stopped working completely twice in the past hour. It hanged or froze in one place.rebooting was not possible as

Nothing you can do other than experimenting with driver versions(it may be possible to get another version of synaptics driver from some other HP laptop model compatible with your laptop but no guarantee) & windows updates.

Did you test with live linux ubuntu version? Unless you do that to rule out hardware issue completely you can only assume that latest win 10 is incompatible with your laptop touchpad driver.
That diagnostic tool is supposed to be run via usb during boot I think in case the inbuilt tool in bios doesn’t start.

Use Ashampoo driver downloader. Least bloatware amongst the dozen I had tested last time. Windows Updates in my case doesn’t ever download the newer/correct drivers for some of the more obscure hardware without which the CPU Package as a whole wouldn’t go to the lowest possible power state.
P.S. If you choose to go down this route you can make use of an easy to use command line tool to backup and restore all drivers automatically so that you never have to deal with these shady driver updaters ever again.

- removed the Synaptics driver twice and tried to use the touchpad without it but the sensitivity of the cursor without the drivers is pathetic.it becomes useless without the drivers.If a mouse is inserted in with or without the Synaptics drivers then it performs normally.Same was the condition of the cursor when I took the diagnostic tests as posted below, is this normal?
