Hi everyone.

im planning on renovating my house. (will get it done by professionals) but before that would like to know few things and ideas which can help me in designing my dream house.

1. Any idea about wallpapers (sticker type)? is it better than getting wall painted?
2. if u have done any research/plan before designing your Home (Interior design) please share it via DM. will use them as inputs.
3. I live in Tier two city (do IKEA/ similar brand stores provide assistance in designs?) (are they worth taking advice from? instead of Google/you tube)

4. Any place where i can get Jaguar/branded Bathroom taps at low price (apart from local dealers) (planning on buying from Chennai/Bangalore. any suggestions abt shop?)

feel free to add any questions in the comments, which may helps me & others planning on same.

thanks.

1. No, go with paint, wallpaper looks cheap and you'll get bored within a month with the same design, solid paint is the answer.

2. Focus on convenience over looks. And go with what you like instead of whats trending in the market. Trend will fade, your choice will stick.

3. Pinterest + local carpernter is the way to go in most cases. There are some local vendors who provide machine cut furniture which is cleaner and better, but will be expensive than having a carpenter makw furniture at home.

4. Some variants available on amazon, not all, local dealers usually provide 20-25% off on mrp. I dont think there will be any 3rd venders who dont have dealership. But you can search the market

Few tips -

Have 20-30% additional money ready than your current budget

Renovation will eat up money like anything

It will take time, so be mentally ready for delays

Ideas from web and actual work will vary a lot

Accept that ground reality

Good luck

Dm me if you need any other help

Was in same place as you 2 yrs ago

Assuming it might be an independent house with a concrete roof.

Is there a roofing sheet over the concrete roof?

I mention this because some friends rushed into modernizing and upgrading their homes to make them look contemporary without securing the roof. When the roof started leaking rain water into the brickwork, they couldn’t fix it since they had spent all their savings on the interior renovation. As a result, all the new paint, woodwork, and other improvements began deteriorating rapidly.

If it were me. I would secure the roof first before spending any large amounts on internal renovation work.

I have designed my own brand new flat. I hired a not so experienced interior designer so I could manage the entire work (workforce/Material transfer from shop to the site etc).

1. No to wall papers with self adhesive however yes to premium/branded wallpapers for certain walls. I have 2 walls with wallpapers. I have also used charcoal sheets.

2. Focus on practicality and durability if you are going to stay for long. Do not over do anything including storage, decor etc. Plan what you need and what you would do now and in future about each sq. feet of space available.

3. You need to have knowledge about material used. It varies a lot...a lot in terms of budget.

Please ensure that you have floor plan and have fair understanding about space required to freely move around in the house.

Good luck 😊

i also need inputs regarding false ceiling and LED lights

1. are they good or will get bored in the long run

2. will they be  accumulating dust?

3. are LED strips aesthetic.

as they will eat into carpet area

can someone give me approximate  cost of total interior of a 3 BHK  bare walled 2000 sqft flat

(including cupboards, modular kitchen)  on a moderate budget. @freebaba

Is PVC Panelling harmful in any way?  are they fire resistant?

@Censuresh

First and foremost, lighting plays a very important role in the overall aesthetics of interior. BUT you got to have the 'taste' and one could easy go overboard with the choice of lighting.

1. Go for 3-in-1 led lights for false ceiling. Ensure that you have enough to illuminate the room. Example for a decent size bedroom which could accommodate king size bed should have 4 15watt LED lights and 4 warm 3 watt led lights. Total 4 switches to operate those, two lights on one switch.

2. No they don't.

3. LED strips do enhance aesthetics of the room if used appropriately and smartly. And only warm white ones which are concealed. No red, blue, green etc. Don't try to create a discotheque 😄

Budget purely depends on choice of material. Example : You get plywood right from 60/- per sq. feet to 200/- per sq. feet. And this variation is true for choice of colour, choice of fittings, choice of wallpapers, curtains, laminates and so on.

Kitchen is a big topic and  important one 😊

PVC ceiling - As far as my advice goes, use it at specific parts and specific way to enhance look of POP ceiling.

PVC itself is harmful.
