Hello,

Even though I live in a metro city, there is no Jio/Airtel Fiber service availability here and only few local operators are available. Jio & Airtel have only the Air Fiber availability which are not as good as wired Fiber.

I am already having a local fiber facility however I am facing issues which are not getting solved. I see that BSNL Fiber is available here.

Since I already have a landline connection of BSNL, they are ready to provision one fiber connection.

The franchise is asking me to pay ₹1400 for only ONU (which also has a telephone jack for my existing landline) or ₹2400 (for ONU + 2.4Ghz router combined) or ₹3400 (for ONU + Dual Band WiFi combined). The brand is Digisol.

My doubt is that is it better to take a combined ONU + WiFi (as a single device) or should I take just the ₹1400 ONU and pair a good TP Link router from outside? Will the combined router + ONU have better reliability (since it's a single device)?

Also how's the reliability of BSNL Fiber? Anyone used it?

Try to negotiate with local dealer.

Sometimes due to Technical faults service breakdowns happen.

If they are providing cheaper rate then keep. Otherwise go for BSNL.

NOTE- Don't use BSNL for something secret. Govt. Is watching.

Buy onu only and use your own router.

I had been using BSNL FTTH service for four years but recently switched to a private operator that became available in my area.

While BSNL FFTH Service had occasional downtimes, the major issue was the lack of a quick and efficient way to report these problems. In contrast, private operators offer fully digitized customer service, allowing you to report issues through their WhatsApp interface and receive immediate attention, including follow-up calls to ensure the internet is back online.

Additionally, BSNL's online portal has significant limitations. It only allows plan upgrades, with no options to downgrade your plan or submit a disconnection request. This means you're forced to visit their Customer Service Centers (CSC) for these tasks, wasting valuable time and incurring additional transportation cost. When you reach these BSNL CSC the officer whom you have to submit these written request to, is away on holiday.

For a hassle-free experience with fully digitized customer service, sticking with private operators is a better choice.

I understand however there is no good operator for Fiber in my area. One or two local operators (with poor service) and BSNL. Apart from this there is Air Fiber from Jio or Airtel. Would opting for Air Fiber from Jio or Airtel be better than BSNL FTTH?

For my relatives, the unit (combo of wifi in home and RJ45 jack to plug in a landline) provided by vendor/BSNL is working okay-okay in about 1500 square feet premises with weirdly thick columns and bit old style 8 inch thick walls in some places.
But if you are more comfortable with customised equipment or a specific router then can take that separately and only pay for the bare minimum to the vendor/BSNL.

Just entering, if you or anyone enquired with local cabelwallah or the internet line supplier as to whose backed line or backbone they are using (like Airtel, Hathway, Railtel, Tata and so on)?

Usually disruption repair and downtime issues are location specific issues only.

With MTNL it was much more moody. Sometimes unscheduled migrations without preinforming happened at night and servers were gone for many hours at.night and early morning.. or their office response used to.be server update/ migration.

Nothing like that with my relatives who use BSNL fiberoptic to home line.

Luckily they live in a place with no liadshedding (long powercuts) and even then the local vendor of BSNL convinced a nearby society to give their switch/hub the power backup line, so even if there is powerful, if the generator in the building (where the BSNL junction box is there) is ON, then the router at customer end still gets signal.

Only issues come when wires are run through electric poles or dangling overhead from building to building
and utility companies or PED/construction people damage something and cable gets damaged.

At-least for my relatives area, the last mile vendor is sweet to them. Sometimes even after sundown, his staff comes to attend to issues (based on personal phone calls and requests). But they then 😊 request/instruct that at-least BSNL is informed by lodging a formal ticket and then sharing the ticket/complaint number with them.

This helps them claim that they closed so many complaints in a week or day.

In other places, I have even heard the reverse, that the thug vendors/ vendor staff threaten people against launching official complaints.

BSNL Haa long been running skeletal operations in-house with only marketing, finance and core operations managed by full time employees. For almost everything else (including call centers, last mile infrastructure) they give contacts to vendors (who sometimes appoint sub-vendors).

Thus last mile repair or servicing of complaints is area dpecific and not always BSNL related issue. Completely depends on the local people (staff of vendor or the lead contractor/manager).

Avoid BSNL, their service is worst.

i will suggest to get 2 connections with basic plans. if there is downtime in one then you can still use the second one.

get 399 plan from 2 service providers = 800 a month.
