Just received this SMS. Paytm automatically deducted from wallet balance (gift) for hotstar ott subscription renewal without otp or password. How can they do that?
Just checked history and I had paid through Paytm last year. I didn't opt for any auto renewal. Is this even legal without any OTP or password? Are these things that RBI banned them for? Has anyone faced this. What's the best way to get refund? Can this be reversed at all? In hotstar it's showing renewed.

I have got the refund. In the app, there was an option to cancel the subscription. After confirmation, 499 got instantly credited back to my Paytm wallet.
This is despite their help FAQ saying "All plans are non-refundable Cancellation does not lead to a refund. It only ensures that your subscription will not be renewed after the current billing period."
Yes this legal. Auto renewal happens without OTP. But banks are supposed to send a message at least 24 hours before deduction.
This was from Paytm gift wallet balance to be exact. And I've got the full refund after cancelling from the app.
Where is the Wallet?
Tomorrow I'll put up a post with screenshots for others who might face this in the future.
That's Paytm as a company.
They tick by default auto renewal when you do a transaction for these things & won't give you a reminder. Their app is ever more garbage where you can't even see these autopays easily.
IMO Hotstar is the culprit here.
Right. Hotstar says their subscription is auto renewing. But doesn't paying with wallets require password or otp. That's been my experience wherever I pay with wallets.
I don't think a refund is possible if once subscribed. You can only cancel your subscription but you will have to forfeit your money. Auto renewal might not always ask for OTP. You should have cancelled auto renewal the moment you paid for the subscription
