Jio is making people buy “mandatory” new connection with the ₹1499 feature phone by paying Rs150 something extra.
When I asked the Reliance Digital sales man that I already have a Jio number and I don’t plan to get a new number, he says the software works only one way, getting a sim by submitting biometrics is “mandatory”.
I called customer care and explained him everything that it’s my issue if I want to use the phone as a paperweight or anything, I don’t consent to buying a new connection, I told him it’s not about ₹153, it’s about Jio’s malpractice.
tomorrow they’ll say to buy a ₹10,000 Lyf phone only then they’ll give the jio phone its fkin wrong, Jio wants to further increase it’s subscribers by this chuypanti.

Bro you are totally wrong. You can use any jio sim in jiophone. Also you can use jiophone’s sim in any other phone. You just need to recharge totalling 1500 per year in jiophone’s sim IF YOU WANT TO GET REFUND OF ₹1500(deposit fee).. Thats what jio told in starting. I dont think there should be any peoblem with this.
Right! But when you’re already a Jio subscriber why should you get a new number? You paid ₹500 in advance for a phone it’s totally upto oneself to give consent for a new connection or not.
Their primary purpose is to sell their services and not the products like Jio phone. The revenue from selling Jio phone is negligible, but main source of revenue is the services they provide. So it is obvious that they will compel you to take a new connection. Every company has its policies. How is this a fraud?
Buy when you already have a jio number recharging ₹350 every month, why’d you get a new number recharge it with ₹153 and put that sim in cupboard?
When they accepted ₹500 they made a commitment to deliver a phone, now they can change the terms and take ₹153 extra from me, but they can’t compell me to get a new phone connection
By your logic if jio gets into credit card bussiness you have to get a credit card to get a phone. If jio makes cars you’ll have to buy a car with jio phone even if the down payment is ₹153 pm, by your logic it’s okay.
It’s fraud and up-selling in its purest form.
It’s like pre-booking a iPhone X on amazon by waiting for 2 months to get it and then you come to know you have to buy ₹1000 prime membership even if you’re already a prime member.

You are right , this new sim should be optional not mandatory but today they raise the price by 153 via sim and also result in new on boarding of customer
I’ll take them to consumer court if the need be. My lawyer would be happy.
Mukesh Ambani uses Contract Phone model that is the normal system of US. He used the same for Reliance CDMA also when it was launched back in 2002-03. The handsets are given at discount with the understanding that certain volume of service would be availed. There is nothing illegal in it. So it would stand the test of law.
