They are trying to shift people from tax saving mode to wealth creation. Modified NTR is the first step in that direction.

PPF is not just tax saving, it is also tax management. Int on PPF is exempted under NTR. Thankfully they have increased rates for SSY

PPF/ all 80 C was/is a "forced" tax saving and tax management. People should be given freedom to manage their life/money. I'd still use PPF but majority didn't want to/ won't.

Have few old Tax Saver FDs at 5.35% interest. Is there a method to break these and make new FDs at 7% ? I can see Partial/Full Closure option for Standard ones but not for Tax Savers 🙁 Anyone who did, please share your experience
