SBI account mobile number messaging issues.

My brother has account in SBI, recently he updated his number in his account though SBI internet banking.  Number got updated successfully, but now weird thing is happening. He is still getting debit card OTP in his older registered mobile number & the rest messages like banking related on his newly updated number. UPI is also mapped on new number, but the problem is debit card OTP. He also went to brach get the number updated but still the same problem despite of updating through branch. Customer is not able to figure out why it is happening. They just telling contact branch. How can be two number mobile number be mapped at the same time 🤔. Have ever faced such issue, how did you get it resolved?

you have to refresh your mobile number while doing txn from debit card.

there is an option to refresh mobile number on the page where you enter OTP.

Their servers are slow stuck_out_tongue
It takes a while for the numbers to get updated
Have patience, everything will get sorted automatically.. visiting branch n contacting their support is waste of time

PS: Had same issue when I tried changing mobile numbers via NB portal sometime back hoping that Yono issues will get resolved

How long it takes.
I am facing the same and it’s been more than a year already.

If you’re facing the same for more than a year then you messed up contacting their dumb support stuck_out_tongue

😁😂
But I never contacted their support.
Update was done manually by visiting branch.
Only debit card otp are received on that no. and few more like sbi rewards rest on updated no.
It seems that bank employee was aware of this issue as he warned us before. He said that changing no. will cause lot of problems in future.

You did worse stuck_out_tongue
May be you can visit the local branch again.. they have some weird tricks like add a new fake term deposit to your account to fix issues laughing

SBI does not give such option to refresh mobile number as ICICI, Kotak, HDFC, etc.

It’s been like 2 moths, they are not fixing it.

If it is taking too long then something got messed up like in my case, my number worked for every service except Yono ( Mobile number doesn’t exist error )
Their support is very poor, their branch employees are more interested in referrals than fixing issues
I tried every possible method but nothing worked. This is when I have  tried updating mobile number via OTP/ATM method and got the same issue as yours (which I think got fixed within a month)
Been to many nearby SBI branches too, everyone could see the same/updated number in their server .. couldn’t figure out the exact issue. Finally as a last resort I went to the native branch where they could see the issue and instantly fixed it by opening a term deposit (they removed it after a week*)

You mean I have to opened a fixed deposit to fix it. Can I open fix deposit online to update number properly.

I am saying, it is what the SBI employee did
Tell your friend to visit the native bank if he didn’t already
Or may be he can try changing mobile numbers again. The downtimes for SBI are more than usual, this time it might just work

PS: FYI, did change numbers just now to check if it is working and yes number got updated instantly ( + for Debit card OTPs)

I’m also facing issue in SBI Quick. My mobile number is linked to my only SBI account and I receive all net banking, yono, transactional messages. But when I try to register for SBI quick, I receive reply that my mobile number is not linked to account. Any way to sort this out? I emailed SBI quick CC, they just repeating steps to register. I had visited branch to check whether mobile number is linked to bank account and they had replied in the affirmative.

This issue needs a few visits to branch. SBI account can have different mobile numbers lnked for different purposes, it is likely a bug. When updating contact number, the number need to be changed on the customer ID page instead of bank account page, this is possible at branch. This way of update usually involves irritating the bank folks for some time, otherwise they don’t do.

Follow the suggestion given above by others mentioning home branch visit. In such cases the real solution can be provided only by sbi technical team which usually sits in Bangalore or Mumbai but getting to them is impossible for a typical customer so branch employees use their own “jugaad” like adding a term deposit to acc which probably forces a refresh of mobile number in the system.

Nope that’s for people who receives specific OTPs on old registered numbers.
In your case you can request your bank manager if your customer ID is linked to any contact number, may be it’s worth checking the contact linked with account number as well.

In my case.. its the same mobile number linked to SBI since the beginning (10+ years old account)
Last year when i tried to activate Yono (Android App* .. Webportal did work though w/ minor issues & i even got Yono CB for few Amazon.in Transactions) it didn’t work.. got similar issue as yours

// I emailed SBI quick CC, they just repeating steps to register //
Same thing happened with me too. Then i tried visiting three nearby SBI Branches (Hope Farm, Ramagondanahalli & Varthur) & reached out to the Yono Help Desk there.. they wasted time n did nothing else

Finally i decided to go to the Native branch (Different State/City)
May be you should visit them again and specifically mention that you’re having issues with SBI Quick. If you ask them to verify the linked mobile number, they simply check the basic details and say “YES

Sbi employees are very lazy and rude.
In west guwahati SBI branch, only one clerk does ALL the work of the entire staff! Everyone including the higher ups come and bother him and even dump their works on him!
He’s already nearing retirement age, I’ll close my account when he’s retired.
Also how does sbi hire and train such incompetent employees??

May be they were competent once
No fear of getting sacked/demoted might’ve made them incompetent
