Hi Guy’s really need suggestions/help.

Yesterday My father and My younger sister were travelling from New Delhi to hometown by local train.

My father and sister were having there phones i.e One plus Nord CE3 and Oppo R17 pro. But as they boarded into the train somebody stole both the phones from my father’s pocket. He’s feeling very disappointed now as he just bought his new phone after 5 years and that was just too not even 15 days old.

Please suggest me the possibilities that could be done. Purchased the phone during this Big billion sale using the SBI Credit Card 3 Months EMI.

If he could forget it he would not have come with a post like this.
Even lives can be lost due to carelessness. Can we forget that?

■ Police complaint and regular follow-up with the IO (investigating officer/s) of various agencies.

■ Praying and hoping that the IMEI/ motherboard are not changed or the device smuggled out of India's jurisdiction.

■ registering the IMEIs in the international repository of the stolen/lost devices database.. to make it harder for anyone to use with a cellular network without being reported.

@Zombieeeee if you bought your mobile through a credit card, check whether you have a purchase protection program on your credit card. if yes then you can claim insurance based on that

Unless you know the Police personally, you won't get it.

Accept the loss and ensure it won't happen again and try to move on.

Worrying over the loss leads to mental stress and nothing helpful.

Main aapki jagah hota toh FIR karne se pehle pyaar se ek baar Sister se bhi poochta ki bataao mobiles kidhar hein. Had come across weird cases where family members itself stole something from home because they were in some debt or angry. Later, had to give faltu money to police because they won't close the case after knowing the situation.

Reporting on CEIR portal along with copy of FIR may render the mobile phones useless, if successfully blocked by them. Technically recovering stolen phones is very easy using IMEI surveillance by mobile phones service providers on request by Police. However police does it only in cases involving murders and grave crimes only.

Some relatives in Police or Politics can help you by pressurising the police.

Even if mobile phone tracking is enabled, it is impossible to recover even after knowing the location, without the assistance of police.

4 years ago my friend shifted to Delhi for studies. Few days later he was travelling by DTC bus. Both his brand new Poco F1 and old redmi mobile were stolen. He lodged an FIR of theft but no progress till date.

Don't know about other countries but there's no option other than moving on, if your mobile is stolen in India.

Very unfortunate, Last year I gifted my dad iphone 13 , it was stolen next day. I did follow up a lot even registered FIR but there was no progress at all.

Gift your father a decent 10k smartphone and move on.

That's really sad, i can relate, as i too went through the same situation.

Learning - make an FIR and move on.

I have gone thru same situation six months back and I understand the feeling one can experience.

Frankly, nothing much you can do on this. Ceir complaint to block imei is just gimmick ..nothing gets blocked even you keep sending reminders to all authorities on tweeter..for months n months..

Consider this as a lessen learnt , at the cost of your phones..and buy a "Kamchalau" phone to move on..

Police/politician se setting -> the only way to get back phones, nothing else is going to work.

You can file FIR, use that FIR to block phone on CEIR, lodge complaint with cyber police or whatever department is there, they'll put a bolo to telecom companies. But that will work only if phone is used by someone, not if it is sold for parts.

But yes, FIR and all is mandatory from your side, to safeguard yourself, in case your phone is misused for any super-illegal activity.

In case you had location and find my device activated, you can try checking the last tracked location. That also would work only till the device was on. Not helpful in case device is switched off.

Its  disheartening  , getting  new  phones after such long use of previous  one and  loosing it in 15  days  . Its  might  be  uncomfortable  feeling specially  for your father .

Getting back  lost phone is  next  to  impossible  as  no initiative  will be there for it from police side . But do register a complaint to avoid to get trapped if  missuse of phone is done . Get the sim also blocked .

And  do get a New phone for your father immediately  to make him feel easy as its hard to forget such things for him

File FIR as your device can be misused although you won't get back your phone since our police  rarely give importance to stolen phones cases unless you are high profile person.

7 months later I am yet to get the FIR number. Everyone is prompt to call, even late in the night, but having to search through their registers for the info is apparently too much work.

Were they password protected? Did you try find my device? Although I'm sure that guy would've turned off the phones, This happens in Delhi a lot, when I used to live there, even my father lost 2 mobiles, in that era , we had keypad phones, similar case as yours , new phones gone too soon. Delhi is the worst place as these robberies is very common there and one should be very careful while traveling in public transport like buses and trains, all these mobiles go for sale in chor bazar or similar markets..

That's really sad. Once search old threads regarding Lost phones... there are many.

First file FIR. But it is really tough to recover... move on.

Really sad episode that too for 2 phones together and nearly new... These cases rise mostly in festive season.

Chances of recovery are minimum, you can try find my device from Google though to get an idea of last location... https://www.google.com/android...d/

Remember to report as lost to RPF as well as central registry: (police complaint number required) https://www.ceir.gov.in/Request/CeirUserBlockRe...
