Until other alternatives remain free, WhatsApp will die in India (as compared to current situation) if they become chargeable smile

Bro those were never free, it’s a bit of psychology here. Who would want to pay for something they have been using for free since years smile
Also, WhatsApp is already mining much more data, I doubt if some nominal fee would be sufficient for them cool

WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram etc all are not charitable trust. How Signal or Telegram or other free messeging app earning and spending money on developer and servers.
They all must be using user data to generate revenue.

Even What’s app was never free it was 2016 only after fb acquired it they made it free with update in data privacy terms.
I think with the founders onboard they would have brought better ideas to run it without ads and privacy breach which they were also working on and even proposed some ideas too before leaving company over the disagreement of data use policy by Fb.
But that’s true people will pick those terms over paying any day at least when we have free alternatives as most of them never understands that how much they indirectly pay but that really doesn’t matter as it’s not going directly but instead through different channels from their pocket only.

That phase will come too.
But first they need to get a loyal userbase over that free alternatives are competition too unless they have got some usp.
