Fire at cracker factory in East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, 11 dead

October 20, 2014, 18.10 pm IST Eleven persons were charred to death and five others suffered serious burn injuries in a mishap at a firecracker manufacturing facility in U Kotthapalli police station limits of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R P Thakur said, "An accidental fire took place in a firecracker manufacturing unit at Uppada Kothapalli. 11 persons have been declared dead. Fire department is trying to control the fire. All our officers are attending the rescue work." Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has expressed grief over the death of 11 persons. He has ordered district collector Neetu Prasad to take measures to put off the fire. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Pithapuram SI of police, Sanyasi Naidu who is at the spot carrying out rescue operations at the scene said, “Fire broke out in the cracker manufacturing shop of Vakathippa of U Kothapalli in East Godavari. We have shifted 7 injured to hospital. The scene is chaotic.” Two fire vehicles were pressed into service to put off the fire. Police said the manufacturing facility has license and mishap took place due to negligence while manufacturing. Injured were shifted to Kakinada government hospital. Help environment, people (or plants and animals) around you by not using firecrackers ! a few of you here who have received my recent inbox messages with a signature appended to it have exchanged your views of approval of the same. Some have mildly put it off as a ho-hum request. but EVERY year, incidents like these reaffirms my avowed stand on the issue. perhaps it is to do with the fact that at an early age I saw a burns victim. She and her brother were part of a group of under-paid bonded slaves to a lord who owned a decrepit fireworks unit that had no safety measures. (the siblings’ parents had repaid 600-700% of the loan but still unaware till they got bedridden and the children had to obey the local rich man) h1. This is just only one of the bad effects of "firecrackers". People just don't understand how hard it is for the animals, little babies, the aged, the sick people to go through this one long day. today is just dhanteras and less crackers sound , still my pet (dog) is so afraid of those sounds . even being in a home he is feeling insecure , then i think all other animals which are on roads and in open environment without any shelter (even some boys try to tease them by showing crackers and bursting those near them) . these are enough to make feel bad for animal lovers and any human . but all of those people who are saying dont do that stop thinking here or have no guts to talk further for help of animals . but with my above thought i reached to point when they are killed just for food . curious how these animals feels in slaughterhouse as just sound makes them so insecure . to just see situation opened a video of slaughtering and then closed it without watching complete as in business slaughtering became more cruel . animals in that video were dying but still alive , blood was all over there . and group of other goats and other animals were watching their type of creature dying with so much cry sounds . what i can say more everyone knows that . so just a request , guys please no crackers , no pollution and also try to be more vegetarian . animals also have emotions , if they have not their party or leaders in govt and no law to secure them then it does not mean we torture them . #justrequest

This blast from the past post is still relevant & shows things ain't gonna change until & unless we make Diwali happy for all. So we must sing Goodbye My Cracker in James Blunt style to make life before, during & after Diwali happy for everyone. Aur haan har cheez ko dharm ke chashme se dekhne walon ko ye baat zaroor yaad rakhni chahiye ki ek din ye chashma tootkar unki hi aankhon mein chubhega. Aur agar dimag mein paison ki garmi wali gas chadhi huyi hai to (Agar main galat nahin hoon to Spock dwara saajha kiye gaye video mein dikhaya gaya) Patanjali ka chooran prayog karein, labh avashya hoga. P.S.: Have said goodbye to crackers long before on my part & reduced consumption for family members to a significantly low level. Still trying to achieve No Crackers Level.

I am gonna be the devil's advocate here// I am not saying burning of crackers is a bad thing, every one at some point in their life would have done it & it should have been fun biggrin

As we grow up, we get to differentiate what is righteous & not. I would say it's a part of our life, Enjoy it!! Btwn it's been almost 5years since i have stopped burning crackers...lol On the other side, there are lot of fire accidents occurring, i would blame the government for it. Stringent practices needs to followed in the factory warehouses & stores, also i didn't notice much differences in the packing of these crackers over the last decade. Government authorities should be held responsible for ppl violating the labor laws & safety standards. It's up to the government to create awareness & protect our mother earth smile

We are humans & we are irrational, live young, live free. Just my 0.2 cents. tl;dr I ain't saying we should / not burn crackers, leave it to the ppl to decide. At the same time it's the responsibility of the govt to control the fire accidents by creating awareness amongst the minds of the ppl & strictly follow the labor & safety standards. The every kind of work has its own good and bad. We should identify them and eliminate the bad and celebrate the good. so, that everyone will be long living with happiness. I really do not understand why somebody would want to "burn" their hard earned money and in return get all those noise (bad for ears) and those toxic gases (bad for skin/lungs). Rather a simple earthen lamp make much subtle a gesture with all it's dignity. (Well, stop right there with that complaints about earthen lamps creating pollution, you and I both know that's invalid). By using those crackers we are causing much environmental pollution to our surroundings. No other alternative that we are responsible and we will suffer due to it. Burning crackers has a more direct and visible impact compared to sacrificing animals. People here are trying to convey few other points, my dear sir, no one is carrying a dead animal and showing it off to you, But these crackers that are bursting near my windows are actually feeding on my patience and peace of mind. Arghh!! So that's one more reason for hating them. And plus, I am scared of a misfired rocket venturing into my room, which you don't have to worry about when one of your neighbors are laying out their dinner, whatever that might contain!! smile

Is bursting crackers a part of your religious practice? No right? But for muslims (and I am not) having animal slaughter is part of 'thanksgiving' or 'offering' to their God/Allah. While you may or may not agree to it, and while I understand your aversion to animal slaughter considering that you are a Vegetarian, you have to respect the rights of other people to practice their religion as they see fit - as long as they do not interfere with your rights to practice yours. P.S. Happy Diwali !
