I am not sure about electrolux, but i ask people to refrain from usual household brands(specially Samsung n Voltas)
In My Personal Opinion,
O General, Daikin, Carrier n Hitachi should be preffered
+1
So is this the final conclusion?
Yes.
You must have gone through this post of mine…
http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...
See, I am not an expert… if you want exact, up to date information/details, then you should consult a HVAC expert, and not just one HVAC expert but two or three of them because different people have different opinions.
But, from whatever little knowledge and personal experience I have, I can say with confidence that Carrier and Daikin are the best HVAC manufacturers.
I don’t know much about Hitachi and General but from what I have heard, it seems quality wise their ACs are similar to those from Carrier and Daikin. I personally prefer Carrier and Daikin because…
1. I feel General ACs are slightly overpriced.
2. Hitachi is good but it is not a ‘specialist’ AC manufacturer.
Hitachi is only popular in the consumer segment in India. Carrier and Daikin are popular in the consumer as well as the commercial segment around the world.
Choosing between Hitachi and Carrier/Daikin is like choosing between a Toyota and an Audi. Toyota makes great cars but, hypothetical situation… if you have to choose between two cars; car A and car B… both of them have similar engines/specs./cabin space/interiors/features/mileage. etc., both of them offer similar value proposition and both of them cost the same… car A is manufactured by Toyota and car B is manufactured by Audi… which one will you choose?
So, my suggestion… choose between Carrier and Daikin.

How good is Voltas/BlueStar?
Voltas – Avoid. Their quality has deteriorated.
Blue Star – Good option if you are on a tight budget.
PS
1. I am not an expert… my suggestion is based on personal opinion/knowledge.
2. If you are buying the AC offline, please do not listen to the salesman/shopkeeper!
3. Best of luck/congrats in advance!
You are truly an expert samdesidime. I made my order blindly after your recommendation.

STOP BLAMING VIDEOCON, IT IS ONLY BRAND SUSTAINING AMONG MNC LIKE LG,SAMSUNG
THE CONDITION OF INDIAN COS. LIKE BPL,ONIDA IS WELL KNOWN
VIDEOCON IS LIKE NIRMA ( FIGHTING WITH MNC LIKE HINDUSTAN LEVER,P&G )
BRAND OWNED BY VIDEOCON ARE -SANSUI,PHILIPS,KENSTAR,KELVINATOR,HYUNDAI,NEXT,ELECTROLUX
SINCE 1985 VIDEOCON IS IN CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SEGMENT
THINK OF POOR & LOWER MIDDLE CLASS, VIDEOCON IS CERTAINLY ENTERTAINING
IT HURTS WHEN DIMMERS USING WORD “CHOR”
IN FACT, DON’T TRUST KOREAN & CHINESE EVEN THE BRITISHER
RESPECT INDIAN BRAND
Whichever you buy but avoid General….believe me we have 3 of these & to tell you the truth, these are Coolers not A.C’s! Why because their cooling is < & air throw is >. Thus cooling effect is limited.

I have both General and Samsung and yes, General does throw out more air, but I would disagree with the cooling effect part. It is a good AC and cooling is satisfactory. My General Window AC is much better than an equivalent Samsung Window AC of the same specs that I had earlier.

I have no idea about their after sales service network in India, but York is a very old (started in 1874 ) and reputed American HVAC manufacturer. The brand is currently owned by Johnson Controls.
Thanks sam for enlightening. Had never heard of York before.

I knew this would invite some sharp observations….I’ve tested these A.C’s in tough conditions, was posted in Asr for a while, the highest temps. in the day are the highest among plains at that place. In the scorching summer heat, General was not affective. While counterparts like lowly LG, Samy, even Videocon cooled much better.
Not just me but 3-4 of my friends, one is a leading IT lawyer, he has 4 General at his place. They all agree that General is more of a cooler. The throw of air is good but cooling affect is low. While other A.C. may be having lesser Air throw but cool much better.

Thanks for the short review… this information will be useful for prospective buyers

Welcome While I’ve had good experiences with L.G.(body is light), Samsung, National, etc.
while the fact of the throwing out more air than cooling may be true, but this is common sense that higher the fan speed less cool would be the air being thrown out. if you lower the fan speed, much cooler will be the air being thrown out.
nevertheless, I bought a Hitachi window Ac in 2002 and its compressor lasted till 2012. it would have gone even further if I had not changed my home 4 years back. There were a lot of electricity first fluctuations and disturbances at my new home in the beginning.
so last year I bought 2:star Hitachi 2 ton split ac from letsbuy for 33500. installation and stabilizer were extra.
I have a Samsung with window Ac also. but its a failure.
I haven’t tested daikin, carrier and o general. but they are also very reputed brands.
I can vouch for Hitachi anytime now.
Hitachi and other big brands = 10 years life.
Samsung, lg, Videocon etc= 5 years life.
very informative thread
i too wanted a window AC and already used voltas 2ton window ac (grt cooling for 5yrs but now its giving problem) so this time looking to buy a 1.5ton AC where as my preference is quality
please suggest accordingly
used kelvinator 1.5ton split (in short gatiya) cant cool 125 sqft room from day one (20k ghus gaye)
videocon window – problem
another voltas 2ton – problem
And where LLOYD fits in this comparison?
what about portable ac from croma…… its really great concept.. isn’t it?
http://www.cromaretail.com/Croma-1-Ton-CRC1067-…
I am thinking to buy it in 2-3 days becoz it will serve my purpose of 3 ACs. no need to buy separate AC for drawing room etc. or pooja room where we spend only few hours.
It is great for those who prefer to keep more than one room cool at home without installing a set of ACs.
what do u say guys!!

You will need exhaust vents in all the rooms you plan to use it in.

Premium brands (Daikin, Carrier, Hitachi, etc.): great performance and trouble-free service for at least a decade.
Ordinary brands (LG, Samsung, Voltas, Haier, Videocon, Lloyd, Electrolux, Godrej, Onida, etc.): may start having problems after 5 years, won’t last as long/may not perform as good as ACs from premium brands.

I don’t have any idea about portable ACs.
Reviews of Croma Portable AC are not good…
Thanks bhai, still digging into other topics to read more reviews about other brands too
