You can open an IDFC bank savings account by depositing an initial amount of 25K or more. But IDFC does not charge for non-maintenance of average monthly balance so you can withdraw the amount once the debit card gets activated.
The Visa Signature debit card which comes with the savings account would be very useful as it gets you two free airport lounge visits every quarter. If you don’t maintain the initial 25K balance in account, you will only have to pay Rs.100 as annual charges for the Visa Signature debit card.
They visit you at home to collect the documents after you fill the short online form. For people who have Aadhaar, the account gets opened within 15 minutes. At my usual petrol bunks from HP, I am charged exactly how much I fill the petrol for. For example, when I fill for 500, the transaction appears with 500 as the charged amount. So unlike some of my other cards, IDFC does not even levy a fuel surcharge or service tax to return later as cashback.
Moreover, as per my observation for a few transactions since January, they are nowadays refunding 0.75% on a bi-monthly basis as per the government regulations for fuel payments by cards.
Can you specify the transaction amount and the fuel company where you were charged service tax? Do contact IDFC and they should be able to take care of any inadvertently charged service tax.
