Zomato Pure Veg Green Fleet Launched amid Controversy!

Zomato is again up with something creative, it’s called the ‘Pure Veg’ mode. You will find a separate section for it in the Zomato app. The Zomato Pure Veg fleet will include restaurants who serve only vegetarian food. Moreover, its delivery agents will work exclusively for this new mode so they won’t deliver non-veg food and also veg food from non-veg restaurants.

The reason for Zomato Pure Veg fleet is to cater to those people who eat only veg food. Apparently, Indians are among the highest to go vegan around the world! Zomato rolled out this new service based on its users feedback and analysis.

On the launch of Zomato Pure Veg mode on 19th March 2024, its Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal said:-

“India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we’ve gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled. Besides, Zomato Pure Veg doesn’t cater to or exclude any religious or political preference."

He added:-

”Our dedicated Pure Veg Fleet will only serve orders from these pure veg restaurants. This means that a non-veg meal, or even a veg meal served by a non-veg restaurant will never go inside the delivery box meant for our Pure Veg Fleet.”

Goyal also said that Zomato Pure Veg mode delivery guys will wear green costumes and deliver in green boxes.

Apart from praises, Zomato Pure Veg fleet also received criticism from netizens saying that red costume delivery personals can be blocked by any RWAs or societies during special days so their physical safety can be compromised. Also, many tenants can face issues due to veg/non-veg food segregation from their societies. Therefore, Goyal today announced that Zomato Pure Veg mode riders will also wear red as usual so on-ground there will be no differentiation.

The Zomato Pure Veg Fleet Menu will differ from location to location. The company have added many pure veg restaurants. Also, existing ones now have more items in the menu. Earlier, some pure veg restaurants had a limited menu. Prices are currently the same.

The impact is also seen on the stock market as Zomato’s stock jumped 5.30%. Besides, Zomato Pure Veg mode users can expect good discounts via Zomato Coupons!
