Zomato Pure Veg Mode
Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal on Tuesday announced the launch of a "Pure Veg Mode" service to cater to customers who have pure vegetarian dietary preference.
He cited feedback from vegetarian customers as the reason for the launch of the new service and informed that the online food delivery platform is also introducing a "Pure Veg Fleet" in India for customers who follow a 100 per cent vegetarian diet.
In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, Goyal said India has the highest percentage of vegetarians globally, and these new features were launched based on their feedback.
"India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we've gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled.
"To solve their dietary preferences, we are today launching a "Pure Veg Mode" along with a "Pure Veg Fleet" on Zomato, for customers who have a 100 per cent vegetarian dietary preference," the Zomato CEO said.
'All our riders -- both our regular fleet, and our fleet for vegetarians, will wear the colour red,' Deepinder Goyal said on Wednesday in its latest update.
'This means that the fleet meant for vegetarian orders will not be identifiable on the ground (but will show on the app that your veg orders will be served by the veg only fleet). This will ensure that our red uniform delivery partners are not incorrectly associated with non-veg food, and blocked by any RWAs or societies during any special days... our rider's physical safety is of paramount importance to us. We now realise that even some of our customers could get into trouble with their landlords, and that would not be a nice if that happened because of us,' Goyal said in his post on X.

How does it matter for a veg person if a packed food is handled by veg fleet or non veg fleet?

If nonveg food and veg food are being delivered by same guy while kept in the same bag, if nonveg curry is spilled, it would make a vegetarian really uncomfortable to handle the food.
People follow vegetarian diet for various reasons. Some may not have any problem eating biryani by removing just nonveg pieces from it and some might not even drink water at nonveg restaurants.

The way Deepinder Goyal is taking Zomato to Next Level is appreciable.
But, i don't see... it is anywhere near swiggy.
Swiggy is so busy with continuous offers on food and instamart.

This didn't age well, looks like they rolled it back now
Amid an outcry over its announcement of a 'pure veg' fleet, Zomato has said all its delivery partners will continue to wear red, rolling back its decision to introduce a green uniform for those delivering food to vegetarians under the new service.
this is shot down soon as riders protested that they will be discriminated against & RWAs may ban their entry.

We (vegetarians) are proud about our food choice and green color .
Looks like non vegetarians themselves feel inferior about there food choice and red color. Why they have this inferiority complex? Is it because they know these eating habit is causing killing of animals?

Appears to be a pure marketing gimmick. If they had that genuine intention, they would have opted for different uniform and food box colour as well. They also know that they are already struggling to find delivery boys in many areas during peak hours, segregation into veg / non-veg fleets will substantially impact timely deliveries. Without clear colour code, it's impossible to identify whether the same delivery boy is carrying veg and non veg items together. Mostly delivery boys deliver one package in one trip only, rarely carry two orders together.
