Does your CPU Fan roars???
Yeah mine does!! But not now, why? Because just tweaked it.:-D

Hi Dimers,
p. This thread is for educational purpose only. Desidime or Me not responsible for any damage occur during your repairs:-P .
Posting this thread because one of friend asked me that my CPU fan roars like engine, should I replaced it or not. That time I advised him to lubricate the fan and give it a try but he didn’t know where to Lubricate. So created this thread to help fellow dimes who does not know about this. Generally we put some oil (lubricant) when some parts of metal joints starts giving noise. Earlier we used oil but now we can have some specific liquids available at market for this problem E.g. Zorrik. You can use any lubricant available at your location I used Zorrik.

Lubricant
p. A lubricant is a substance introduced to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces.
p. Now come to the point, why some CPU fan starts making big noises. These types of problem persist when a CPU box is near to dusty and humid environment. CPU fan consist 2 bearings in it. The bearing gets dusty or corrosive and it starts making noise. It may reduce the performance of the fan because friction happening in the bearings. Then what is solution to this problem? Simply just lubricate it and keep it clean. How to do it? I am just going to explain it.

  • Refer the above pictures you will find the parts of the CPU Fan. Pull out the fan safely from the CPU heat sink and remove the Label and keep it safe because we needed again to seal it.
  • Now you will see a Lock. Safely and gently pull out the lock by pressing outwards with help of tweezers.
  • Now turn the fan assemble hold firmly the frame of the Fan and pull Fan Blades. You will find little spring attached to the axis of the fan blade. Keep it safe and clean it.
  • Clear the electric components with clean cloth. Never use water to clean it may burst and you will loose your fan. Use a toothbrush instead to remove dust and particles but do it gently. Now with tweezers remove the bearing by pushing it from the back. Apply zorrik 88 or any lubricate on bearing and put tweezers into the bearing hall to make bearing move. Rotate the bearing upper while holding inner metal case with tweezers. Now clean it with soft and cleaned cloth and put back all together.
  • Now lock the fan blade with lock earlier we remove first during the process. Rotate the fan manually for some time. Now stick the Label sticker back to it place.
  • Set the fan on heatsink and start the PC. You will hear the noise for some time because corrosion and dust still remained it the bearing but don’t worry it will stop noise within a minute. After some time you will find the noise gone from the fan. It may come several time because bearing is very small part and we applied the lubricant it take some rotation to fill the bearing with lubricant.

Now enjoy noise free CPU fan and Get back to your work. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif
Keeping notes during assemble and disassemble is advised it will help you to know the parts and where to put parts.
Don’t forget to share your results.

I am getting noise from my cpu fan since a while. But i thought it was maybe because the fan wasnt intact properly because when i held the cpu cover with which the fan was intact the noise stopped. Is it the lubricant issue or some other?

@vibhornanda Most likely a cabinet/chassis problem. Or the cabinet cover/fan might just have become loose.

just clean dust from computer, check the RAM slot it might be problem with connector.

for performance issue, if you are using win7 on 2gb ram and c2d machine, its possible your machine is already giving its best performance.
may be you have lots of unwanted services running in background that you need to stop first. clean all temp files. stop indexing. use optimizer tools. last but not least update your antivirus app and scan the machine.

good thread..

2 days before my computer got hang.
thank god made a whole system backup couple of months ago

PC Specifications:
6yr old , core 2 duo with intel g33 , 320 GB samsung HDD, 2GB RAM

My two disk partitions were not working any more. (not showing free/used space)
i assumed problem is with internal hard disk.

and

yesterday i cleaned my CPU filled with dusts and ants(yeah.. small red ants)

those little ants coming out from smps and hard disk.

I almost was clueless what to do next.

i removed every parts from CPU.
removed dust and managed to rip away some ants(yes still some left with in HDD).

Processor fan was full of dust .
removed the fan and processor .
cleaned every thing(did not touched processor gold contacts)

Then noticed thermal paste used to apply between fan and processor almost dried and some lost due to my cleaning.

So bought clean master IC Value V1 Thermal Compound @ Rs220 locally.

And applied it and fixed every thing back.

The whole job took a full day https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

then,
Freshly installed Windows 7.
Formatted all drives.

Now still HDD problem exist .
2 drives showing as raw .

tried many thing no improvement.

Good thing is that the CPU performance is now great after Thermal paste application.
Less sound from CPU after over all cleaning.

guys do u have any idea to solve issue with my Hard disk .
