Yes it modifies your hosts file by adding a huge set of ad servers from open source repositories and redirecting them to null . Hence you will not see in-app ads ! They listed it on playstore longback but google immediately removed it !

Adfree or Adaway or MinMinGuard has no impact on RAM !

Your playstore currently would be 4.8.20 version. Uninstall your playstore from the phone. Clean Cache of google Play services .

Tried above steps with no luck. Tried older versions of playstore also. When I enter password for playstore it dose log me in for gmail & other apps. Even in playstore search field when I type something , it shows me predictive apps but otherwise the playstore app is empty with “No Connection – Retry” in the middle.

My Mi3 playstore problem is now solved. Did a factory reset of ‘personal data’.
After I switched on the phone had to go through the setup things again..There I found I had disabled the Google location service. That was the reason why playstore was not connecting.

In between I did many things to fix the problem. Installed older versions, VPN, Proxy. Booted phone in recovery mode & wiped system cache. Digged in MIUI forum on same problem with others & solutions. I didnt want to do the factory reset as it resulted in losing of all google apps and framework etc. Was about to give up & list my phone in quikr, but finally saved it.

good going…every phone has problem or issues with them but trust me this is much better than all those Samsung shit phones.people are too skeptical about this phone being manufactured and marketed by Chinese company. but trust me this is more than worth they can get in 14k.

The patience and the will to rectify the problem will keep you in long stead !!! Remember no problem is big enough ! There are always people who will help you out !! Some people here are hellbent on weighing down the device i don’t know why !!!! Every device has its own issues !! I can quote you hundreds of issues in all the branded phones be it Samsung’s (from my experience @Samsung Research ! ) , LG , Sony , HTC !! None of the brands are untouched !!! Software development and bugs go hand in hand !!! But that does not mean their is no solution to it !!! Like every other device this device also has its share of issues !!! But believe me this phone is bang for the buck ! Xiaomi has its issues with its hunger marketing and other strategies !!! But in no ways the device is a let down !!! The amount you paid and the power you get out of the phone is amazing !!!!

One more thing !! MIUI is more community driven compared any other vendor specific ROMS !! So people coming from traditional android manufacturers like Samsung, LG , Sony , HTC etc will feel a bit odd when they have to go to their forum and ask for specific things !! But believe me if you interact with other people you will never lose anything !!! You get to learn new things every single day ! However naive the person is everyone has peculiar qualities !!! This is how they want to develop MIUI !! That is through more and more crowd driven features !! That is the future of Software systems ! Vendors have to cater to what people want and not the other way around .

Try out the Xiaomi Forums ! People are always ready to help ! Moderators are super awesome ! Your bugs will be addressed and progress update will be provided ! Where else have seen such kind of pro-activeness in terms of development ? Do the other vendors even ask the user whether they actually want the feature or not ?? Check out the Xiaomi forums where you can get to vote on the upcoming features you want in MIUI v6 !!

Android will always have bugs due to its inherent nature being open sourced. But this is what gives it the power !!!

Its good that you put in effort to solve the issue and not give up !!!

Nopes default lyrics plugin does not seem to capture any lyrics ! If lyrics needed either use musiXmatch or ask me lyrics plugin ! Its officially under the list of bugs ! should be fixed in upcoming 21.0 version . If you wanna try it try it WCDMA china ROM !

Hi akshat. Thanks for encouraging me to root my device. I rooted my device. I have installed the adblocker app you mentioned. Even those stupid ads appearing on desidime have gone too. Can you suggest some optimizations that can be done on rooted phone to get more performance? I don’t want to try over clocking and things like that.
