Ugh! Go away. I get so frustrated and uneasy just imagining how somebody can stand 2G speeds in today’s day and age.

Happened to me once. Had to make an urgent call but was unable cause the balance was below 1. Could not do a recharge (SBI sucks the OTP page did not come only ) took a lift to the nearest recharge shop. It was closed ^2
.
Finally did the recharge myself then cause network signal was good there It was then I realised the other things I could have done. Slept for the next 5 hours

Now I never let my Paytm balance below 10

BSNL night unlimited used to be from 2 AM to 8 AM. There were many using scripts to start download at 2.10 AM and stop at 7.50 AM.
So much so that they stopped the plan.

13 years ago Mukesh Ambani gave the best mobile technology to India – CDMA. Half of US, whole of South Korea and major part of China works on CDMA. Even LTE is effectively an extension of CDMA only.

Since 2010 I am using MTS (CDMA Rev.B) as my main net connection that gIves 40 GB for 999+tax with stable speeds of about 2-3 Mbps. Thats Rs.25/GB. I also had data pack in my RCom CDMA that gave 5 GB @ 248, again less than Rs.50/GB. The voice clarity of CDMA can only be dreamt of by GSM users. But CDMA was never adopted by the majority in India, thanks to the hype of Airtel and Vodafone. It never got the revenue needed to self sustain.

So today BSNL CDMA and RCom CDMA are already closed, TATA CDMA also closing down, MTS is looking for a buyer and the public is going gaga on an over-hyped product.

After Jio opened up to more users, MTS is giving better speeds than than Jio. From today, it would only be worse.

I do not blame Mukesh Ambani. He gave us the cheap and best 13 years back, we refused it. So now he is giving what we want, even if its neither cheap nor best.

As long as BSNL Boradband works, it is still the best. Problem is, when it stops, getting it back to work requires a lot of work.
BSNL 3G works great in Tier-II/Tier-III cities. But it sucks in Metros.

I have a BSNL Sim which i bought when i was in Chennai. I never got speeds more than 200-250 kbps in Chennai . half of the time webpage doesn’t load. I have tried the same Sim in Kerala , Bangalore and experience with BSNL 3g has been nothing short of pathetic. Although Airtel is expensive, but it works okay for the most part. But without a doubt Jio has been great but unfortunately speeds are coming down.

I used to get 50-60 Mbps earlier and now it has gone down to 10-20 Mbps depending on the time of the day.

It was right there on the tariff chart Mr. Mukesh are referring to.

I used BSNL EVDO till it committed suicide. CDMA was already so advanced that they didn’t have to lay down infrastructure for broadband speeds upto 3 Mbps for which the GSM companies had to buy the spectrum worth thousands of crores. Companies like Tata took opportunistic approach and offered data at rate at par with it’s GSM compatriots.

The reason that BSNL EVDO never took off was apathy from Babudom. They never marketed it. Which other company offered broadband with ‘truly unlimited’ data at Rs.825(the last tariff they revised).
