No doubt Airtel is one of the most evil business entities in India – FUP, mass looting in name of VAS activations, etc. Most evil ideas take birth at Airtel. Now AirtelZero and separate packs for messaging apps., etc. Anti-competitive issues aside, this will also lead to privacy violation.

Anand Chandrasekaran, Chief Product Officer of Airtel, on Twitter, has in no uncertain words mentioned that they don’t care about public opinion.

Please do the following right away, to make a mark instead of ranting and lamenting:

Port out of Airtel if you are a customer. Switch ISP if on Airtel Broadband. and vow not to buy any Bharti product or service (Including Beetle hardware, Hike Messenger, etc).

Uninstall Flipkart and Myntra apps and leave a 1 star feedback on respective app stores mentioning your strong disapproval of their association with Telecom’s biggest crook.

Stop buying buying from Flipkart and Myntra unless and until they renege.

Remember, these big corporations speak only the language of balance sheets. They are not interested in our rants. You can keep ranting and remain a subscriber/customer, it will have no effect at all. The only thing they will notice is their business going elsewhere.

Lastly, lets be realistic – big capitalistic corporations are here to make more money at any cost. The ultimate responsibility rests with regulators like TRAI and bodies like CCI (Competition Commision of India) and ultimately our elected government, to keep them in check. And this certainly does not seem to be happening. Hence, send tweets/mails to Narendra Modi and Ravi Shankar Prasad making it clear that it is they who are ultimately responsible for protecting consumer/public/national interests. Pledge that No Net Neutrality = no votes for BJP. Simple!

Interestingly, it seems Mr. Narendra Modi hasn’t even bothered to even make his stand clear or even respond to the deluge of tweets regarding the issue. Nor has the BJP. In all likely hood the govt. will keep favouring large corporates at the cost of the common man, unless we can build tremendous pressure.

good initiative by dd to promote it to the fp…..it should be made sticky and all possible measures need to taken to give this post more visibility. For starters, even though its on the front page, have it listed as the first deal on the front page and not slip down the list of deals

What is net neutrality?
Net neutrality is a principle that says Internet service providers should treat all traffic on their networks equally. That means companies like Airtel should not block or slow down access to any website or content on the Web – for instance, to benefit their own services over those of competitors.

How can ISPs harm net neutrality?
ISPs have previously talked about charging extra for services like Skype that compete with its voice business. That’s against the principle of net neutrality that asks for all traffic to be treated equally.

What is zero-rating?
Airtel has also announced a new service called Airtel Zero where it will offer customers free access to certain apps and services, with cost of this data traffic being borne by the partner. For example, if Flipkart signs up as an Airtel Zero partner, you will not be charged for data you use while accessing Flipkart, and Airtel will bill Flipkart for that session.

While that may sound great on paper, experts say that in the long term it’s against consumer interests, because consumers are more likely to use free services. They say smaller companies, who cannot afford to subsidise consumer access to their websites and services, are likely to lose out, stifling innovation in the country, which means fewer options for consumers in the long run.

Of course Airtel is not alone in this, with Facebook’s Internet.org operating on a similar principle, and various other apps have tie-up with telcos in the past to offer consumers free access to their services.

Who regulates this?
Trai, or Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, regulates all Internet access in India, and is currently in the process of forming the guidelines for all OTT players – essentially apps and services that operate over telco infrastructure like the Internet – that also includes subjects like net neutrality and zero rating.

What can I do?
The regulator is seeking the views of all stakeholders by April 24 – that includes consumers like you – and you can send your comments to [email protected] to let the regulator know where you stand.

See http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

I’m not to fond of US either.. I love India, but this kinda stuff makes me suffocate.. I don’t want my daughter to face this crap.. Till the time the net is open let me research where I could live a better life!

Did you know in Finland 1MBPS is a legal right! Every finn has access to 1MBPS line!
