Hi guys,

Today I visited a restaurant where ₹20 Bisleri water was charged for ₹55. When I asked for clarification from manager, he said, this is our charge. You have to pay.

So, how & where to complain about this ? IMG20230101172829

Once upon a time we had Pyaus  for offering  free water to everyone,  people got educated now with leakage in  brain  and highly  trust bottled  water  and pay for it , then they go to hotels and there also they dont want that free water given by hotels but want branded  bottled  water and pay there also for it ,
when already  paying for what is available  for free than pay more and Feel the Premium Class  Status stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye .

A soldier who sacrifice his life for unknown people. Who leaves his family to protect our families. Who stand in -20 degree day and night.
Who puts his nation first before his life.

And on the other hand a businessmen who does not even have the guts to pay the proper income tax. I have seen businessmen with 5+ cr income filing return not more than 5 lakh (+ criticising India ke is desh ka kuch ni ho skta).

Which so called 'courage' you were talking about ?

Carrying your own mineral water is allowed in almost all restaurants

Use the hotels for rooms only, never use their room service, restaurant unless it is included in your hotel bill complementary then use it fully. Use the rooms and eat outside. If at all must have to eat in the hotel always double check the menu prices, water is mentioned as per MRP then order or best carry your water. I have not seen anyone restricting carrying water.

bro try your luck on https://consumerhelpline.gov.i... anyway, they did not charge you only Rs. 55

they charge you Rs. 55 + 18% Gst + 2% Sct = Rs. 66

we didn’t fight whole thing in court but many loopholes there like selling above mrp and charging gst on that already mrp includes gst as per my knowledge so this point creates confusion. now on the name of service charge court allow but in this bill they added two times service charge one direct second indirect is this legal? and latest regulation of government say if Customer want to pay Service charge then they give but they forcefully not take it.

Just leave negative review in Google maps for the restaurant. Thats the maximum you can do as revenge.

Otherwise share the hotel google link here. Dimers can attack with bunch of negative reviews 💪🏼

Some questions here..

1. Hon. SC stated about ambience and service we enjoy. So, why it's adding specific to packaged water(mrp). It should be added to whole bill. But here is the catch, what'll be the name then? Service charge, but issue of service charge is in Hon. SC. Till today, customer have to pay service charge as new CCPA guidelines are stayed now.

2.If the bottled water is being served to you within a restaurant premise, in a glass, and is/or temperature conditioned, then there is a service being provided, and the restaurant is at liberty to charge over and above the MRP. However, if you are purchasing the bottle of water from over the counter, or at a departmental store then they cannot over-charge you.” is it what hon. supreme court meant!?
If this is correct, it's under reasonable classification for taking extra amount. @kool

@RohitKrOfficial that "forcefully not take it" part is stayed now.

@maddydilip @Subhodayam this restaurant will not affected by negative review at all.  Maurya is brand. (Just POV) Also, @getready mentioned earlier it's not illegal yet.
OP have some remedies:

  • Consumer Helpline (not much hope)
  • GOI (but why parliament will come with the bill which seems to be against the corporates and Businesses)
  • Hon. SC/Highcourt of Patna
  • Some NGO/Social Movement

One more thing to what's definition of hotel/restaurant in eyes of law is important. Not every htl/rstrnt can levy extra charges.

@quantum I didn't know much about these pricing, so in curiosity I asked you all. And that's true we can't do anything for such a reputed branded restaurant.

Partially agreed @kool , can't do by putting review in bad faith. More ways mentioned and others welcomed.

There is nothing new or illegal or loot from their side and it is foolish to even think about this as the charges are being asked to pay not only for water it was also for the cleanliness/comfort/waiter/environment/royal decorating. If u have a problem then simply buy from the roadside shop they will give u the same bottle at mrp cost.

According to that roadside momos cost only ₹50 per plate without CGST, SCT, SGT.

  • Restaurants within hotels (Where room tariff/rate is more than or equal to Rs 7,500): 18% GST
  • Normal/composite outdoor catering within hotels* (Where room tariff/rate is more than or equal to Rs 7,500): 18% GST

food and beverages are getting costlier day by day especially at airports, food courts and malls.

normal restaurants also charges a big amount for food.

the only low cost option is to have food made at home...

1L water for Rs 55 is acceptable compared to paying Rs 250 for a coffee at airport

This mark-up has been there for ages in hotels/restaurants. It is called establishment charges.

However, if you want to complain, Google Rahul Bose Banana and decide for yourself.

Posting a negative review does not affect the restaurant it just increases it's view posting something like it does not exist is the revenge that the restaurant owner will not forget
