Kill all debit cards: SBI says debit card has no future, users will need to move to YONO:
SBI is willing to get rid of debit cards and rely on more digital banking solutions for the future. SBI wants to rely on its YONO app for future ATM transactions.
SBI Aims to Eliminate Debit Cards to Boost Digital Payment Solutions
SBI chairman Rajnish Kumar said there are around 90 crore debit cards in the country as against 3 crore credit cards, and pointed out to digital solutions like its own âYonoâ platform as the key for achieving a debit card-less country.
Kumar said through the Yono platform, one can withdraw cash at the automated teller machines or pay for purchases at a merchant establishment without having a card at all.
He said the bank has already set up 68,000 âYono cashpointsâ and is in the process of scaling it up massively to over 1 million in the next 18 months, which will make the necessity to have a card even less.
Additionally, the Yono platform can also give credit for buying certain merchandise, making the credit card in the pocket also as a âstand-byâ, Kumar said.
In the next five years, there will be a limited need to have any plastic cards in your pocket, Kumar said, pointing out that virtual coupons is the future.
He said at present, the QR code is also a very inexpensive way of ensuring payments.

SBI also capped itâs debit card reward points. When asked with SBI manager he tells use yono
Yo Ho Ki Tyo HoâŚ.. Sab Band kar doâŚ.
close SBI bank. haha
Good. You will save 150-250 per year which they fleece as annual charges from customers
Donât be so optimistic. They will shift these charges to YONO.
Not possible before 2050
really there are no charges for atm cardless withthdrwal ?
does yono have rules like 5 atm withdrawal per month and more than 5 are charged âŚâŚ
Debit card has become main medium to access money (thru ATM) and buy stuff (thru POS terminals). Almost all bank gives cardless withdrawal facilities now. I have used icici cardless withdrawal, it was quite easy. Still it can not beat ease of use and safety of debit card. these feature are not meant for everyone because not everyone has technical knowledge. These SBI guys calls customer to visit branch for anything and everything, its quite funny to see they are talking about digital communication.
Note: If you loose password or need to change any info then same people will say " Branch Jaiye, wahi hoga" and will waste your whole day in branch even for smallest thing.
Meanwhile fraudsters be like..
Sureshot Flop Idea of SBI.
OLX / Quikr pe loot machegiâŚ.
They also stop monthly reward point in debit card.
Not a good step ahead, using SBI debit card for last 8 years totally satisfied, also using statebank rewardz points redeem them time to time by using them for mobile recharge.
OO NO
SBI has no future
Now these illiterate managers want poor villagers to live with their app and pay extra for smartphones and internet just because they choose corrupt business-men to loan out their money, and now these lazy bankers canât recover those loan monies, they want to extract their salaries from deposits of common men denying all facilities.
Bringing app doesnât necessarily mean that everyone has to use it compulsorily.
In fact it will take much more time to reach villages.
It is not one day transformation.
And till then villagers will also get used to smartphone.
cash withdraw using yono app will count in bank provides 5 free transactions on its own ATM?
dnt know
what happens if there is no network coverage.
In case you lose the network, just relax and celebrate the new India.
YONO- Y ou O nly N eed O ne. SBI brought it as they put every tab in one app and closed around 8 apps they offered like mBanking, UPI, mstatement, freedom etc.
Donât have SBI acc. Anyways, the last time I withdrawn cash from ATM was on 25/02/2017. In last 10 years my cash withdraw stands at Rs. 63500 only. My banks love me more than anyone else. Received letter of appreciation in an email from HDFC and ICICI for being digital only. Axis donât understand me so they didnât sent any.
@chingumboy
Perhaps you didnât give âchingumâ to axis bankđ
they are taking revenge
Does sbi has nothing useful to do? what kind of garbage proposal is this??
what if there is no SBI ATM Nearby? as far I understands.. YoNo works with SBI ATMs only.
modiji rupay card launch kr rahey hai bhutan me r yaha sbi debit card ko hee dhakka dene ko tyaar h
Debit cards are a good way toward cashless economy. They are more user friendly and secure than any app. Especially not so tech savvy people and eledey folks can use debit card easily at any POS terminal. Forcing people to use app will led to frustrations and then there will be others banks ready to cashin on such situation
poor people have RuPay PMDJY card.
SBI never discontinued RuPay PMDJY card or other RuPay classic/platinum cards.
Matlab debit card use karne ke liye PMJDY account khulwaney parangey?
Baki normal debit card band hi jayenge?
đ
Kya rupay card debit card nahi hai
its actually good for Customer as well as bank .
no annual debit card charges
no card lost/stolen therefore no duplicate card and hotlisting charges.
fraudster often call for debit card details to get access to your account in name of replacement/upgradation , this would no longer matter.
etc.
Haan aur kya aap logon ka kaam kum ho jayega
Koi debut card issue and reissue karaney nahi ayega
Ye to wahi baat ho gayee na khana na kharcha
It took years to reduce card related frauds.
Now â new system coming. So several fraudsters will be on a task to find loop holes for such upcoming systemsâŚâŚâŚâŚ
I think, we much switch on to such new system once we have proper confidence on safety
konsa chingum khate ho bhai, aaj toh batado, big babul hai kya?
What the hell is YONO?
