Schedule of Activities Prescribed by TRAIhttps://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/544257/original/IMG-20181230-115157.jpg?1546152605TRAI has ordered that 30% consumers should select their channels by 7th Jan.
They want the report from operators.
Keeping in mind court verdict regarding 15% cap which is not decided yet, many things will change.

Those are old PDFs, last updated on 18-Dec. There is nothing new about them because the prices of individual channel will remain same across the platforms. We are interested in how they implement and what kind of bouquets they create. Airtel and Hathway both have created bouquets in innovative ways.

HD content, even earlier was costly compared to SD. On most of the platforms only HD was not even sold. At least on Dish TV and D2H, I know that you cannot even buy an HD channel if you want to go completely A-La-Carte. Now, that will not be the case. The price of SD or HD both are already published by the broadcasters and now no one can deny the HD content if one doesnt buy the SD.

I dont think we ever had a better deal than one of the bouquets on the Aitel platform – 31 HD channels for Rs. 93.

I thought in 2018 we will see hd channels price decrease and 4k hd channels will be launched but now we are in a situation where even sd channels price have gone up. In this era why would anyone watch sd content where 4k is becoming common.I dont know what are govt policies

I dont think your conclusions are correct. But I maybe wrong. 1 HD is not equal to 2 SD, at least in most cases. Some of the HD channels are just Re.1 to Rs.2 costlier than its SD counterpart. Please try to create your own pack on Airtel and draw your conclusions. I did so and it is become way cheaper than my old plan on DishTV. Maybe when all the operators start the mechanism to select the channels the picture will be clear. But in my opinion the situation will be better only.

i think he meant, 1 HD=2 SD in the sense of network capacity. u need to pay extra if it cross 100 network capacity

If u r paying 400+ currently then as per new rule it will be beneficial otherwise people will struggle to pay

Do help the beggars out, please. When you see a beggar in road you give some bhik right? Do the same here, to this govt.

Someone was lecturing about logic few posts back? That price chart enough logic for you? And that’s all SD channels by the way LMAO.

In any case, I don’t personally believe this sorcery by TRAI will be continued. I hope SC puts an end to this sorcery, and puts a huge penalty to TRAI for harassing and misleading us by disinformation.

No need sir. Better options already available.

Many of my friends have cut the cord completely.

Amazon Firetstick + Jio TV App + any home broadbad with about 5 mbps speed is enough to watch TV at a fraction of the cost compared to DTH.

Many dimers here are not yet understood real meaning of Network Capacity Fee.
I am explaining this below in funny way.

Imagine you have bought 1 Coffee Mug (₹154/piece) from market having capacity of 100 ml.

Now Imagine below terms and their meaning.
Coffee Machine = dth Operators/Broadcasters
Water = FTA Channels
Cappuccino/Latte/Tea = Various Pay Channels

Rules :
1) As you have bought mug of capacity 100 ml, you can add upto max 100 ml.
2) Water is free of cost, but Cappuccino/Latte/Tea is not free.
3) Coffee machine will serve you at least 26 ml of water irrespective of button you press.

Scenarios :
1) You are poor and you can hardly afford to buy mug only. Then you can get water from coffee machine and drink it (100 ml) as it is free of cost.
2) You are rich and you prefer cappuccino, so when you press cappuccino, coffee machine will give you ( 74 ml coffee + 26 ml water).
But here, that 74 ml is not free, you need to pay for that.

NOTE : 1 Coffee Mug is valid for 30 days only, after which coffee machine won’t give you anything (No water, No cappuccino) unless you buy new coffee mug for next month.

I hope above scenarios will clear clouds in your mind blush

Thats right Hankar !

The analogy is right !!

But one addition to your example.

There is a Coffee Machine available which will give water for free for life. You dont have to buy the mug every month. And that Coffee Machine is not going to serve only 26ml free water but all the water that are being made available by the Water-Companies for free.

That Coffee Machine is called DD FreeDish !

[STRICTLY FOR CONSUMERS WATCHING HD CONTENT ONLY]
I am assuming 100 HD channels for the calculation.
Now we will calculate NCF, taxes and capacity.
100 HD = 200 SD….(“1 HD = 2 SD” formula is mandated by TRAI, I don’t care if anyone don’t accept this)

(A) For first (100 SD/50 HD) channels,
NCF = ₹130. Excluding 26 DD channels which are mandatory, you will get (74/2 SD)= 37 HD channels capacity.

(B) For each extra slab of 25 SD channels,
NCF = ₹20.
For remaining 63 HD/125 SD channels, I am adding 5 slabs of 125 SD total capacity.
i.e. NCF for extra slab = ₹20*5 = ₹100.

Total NCF = 100 + 130 = 230
Including 18% taxes, NCF ~ ₹272

CONCLUSION :
For getting capacity of 100 HD channels only, one needs to pay ₹272 as NCF .
Almost all HD channels are pay channels.
Now add your bonquet/individual pay channels  as per your wish and check if you need to pay more or less.

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet

There are about 90/95 HD channels available in India.

Those channels are across all genre, all platforms and all languages. On DishTV the largest HD pack currently available is of 49 HD channels that include all south languages.

Where to get all SD and HD channel prices and also is base pack mandatory?

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet
Link Copied

Is the base pack mandatory ?

Two answers :
1. No, now the platforms cannot force you to buy the channels of their choice as part of any pack. The exception is the 26 (or 28) Prasar Bharti channels.
2. Yes. The minimum bill guarantee that you have to give is of Rs.130+tax. You buy a space of 100 channels (including those Prasar Bharti channels).

Effectively, even if you want to watch 1 channel (26 will come anyway), you have to pay Rs.130+tax. You may opt to have only free channels and you don’t pay anything extra. Or you buy paid channels in those 100 if you chose to pay over and above Rs.130.

Where to get all SD and HD channel prices ?

There are links provided in the thread. Going forward, the DTH platform cannot dictate the price but the broadcasters. So the prices will more or less remain same across platforms.

TRAI plea on 15% bouquet discount cap dismissed as withdrawn in SC
https://www.exchange4media.com/media-tv-news/tr...

So the current pricing is here to stay. Wonder how many people will now believe that prices will drastically reduce because of the 15% cap rule
Now the only chance for prices to reduce rests on the hope that many people will give up channels rather than pay extra (so hopefully prices will reduce). I doubt that will happen though

My own bill for 15 channels will rise from the 150+taxes that I currently pay. So naturally, I hate this new scheme of things. Maybe, it is time to say bye bye DTH

BTW, for those of you interested, this was my November bill (with taxes): Total = Rs 185/-
In addition to getting the channels I paid for, I also used to get some free DD & news channels
Plus, I used to get some sister movie channels free (for those of you who don’t know what this is, you subscribe to one movie channel from a particular broadcaster and you get another channel free. I’ve had these sister channel offers for 2+ years now, so I’ve no idea if it was promotional or by error or by design. Those of you who subscribe to DTH forums will know what I am talking about when I say paid channels for free. e.g. &flix & Movies Now used to come free even though they were pay channels. Plus one from Star that I’ve forgotten)

PBC Zonal Pack 0
Animal Planet 10
BBC World 10
CNBC TV18 10
Comedy Central 10
Discovery 10
HBO 10
National Geographic 10
Romedy Now 10
Sony Pix 10
Star Movies 10
Star World 10
Ten 2 35 (This was the only one I would replace regularly depending on who had the rights to the events we wanted to watch, during the Olympics – Star, FIFA WC – Ten)
Times Now 10
Warner Brother 10
Zee Café 10
Zee Studio 10
Total amount – Rs 185

So you see, for those who wanted to choose your own pack and pay for just what you wanted, that facility has long since been available – at least for 2.5+ years, because the Olympics were in 2016 and I had the pick by channel option then. The only drawback was that it was SD but my TV is smaller so that’s fine for me)

I have been with a similar deal from TSky with 165/- monthly bill (a la carte) for many years. Only 5 of them are required and the rest are just fillers. But now it doesn’t seem to work out this way. disappointed_relieved That forceful 130+GST will make it to 300+ for sure (even if I choose that 5 channels only).

PS: Can anyone update about any pack update with TSky? There’s nothing in their web/ app.

Yes, it has been available for a while now. Suggested packs are the best. My current package is of less than 200 rupees per month. Their suggested pack is of 340 PM, all SD channels by the way.

I seriously haven’t seen a more ridiculous thing in a very long time, and that includes all the latest ridiculous shite like 35 mandatory mobile recharge and stuffs alike.

Update for D2H Users

D2H has recently introduced “MAP TOOL” on their website.
Map Tool option is available under subscription plan on main page. Users having their account on D2H.com can check out this tool. After log in, we can choose channels and bouquets.
D2h.com site is running very slow today, hence I haven’t gone much further.

There is maptool available for DishTv and Airtel as well but I guess it is not ready to use as it only gives price comparison.

I am shocked by the move made by TS, now as all operators obeyed, new tariffs are here to stay but Delhi High court can suggest some changes in new tariff order on 28th Jan.
I am hoping they will reduce NCF.
As operators providing bouquets for less price than individual channels, people will eventually prefer to bouquets. If they don’t reduce NCF then channels price must come down.
