Last year assessment year 2022-23 filed ITR 2 and self declared some additional income other than salary (capital gain).
After paying the tax due, I e-verified the return without adding the details of paid amount.
It was processed with tax due. I have the challan with BSR no and all the details of the paid amount within due date. I got notice with demand due.
But I did not file revised return and now it's showing due and interest is also being calculated for each month.
I filed grivence, they replied to file rectification, but while filing rectification it is showing to pay additional 5000 Rs reason being late filing of ITR.
What to do, tried to search in google no answer.
Please help if you have any knowledge regarding this.

I think irrespective of the notice you can still file a revised ITR till 31.12.2023. Once the revised ITR gets processed without any demand, you can respond to demand notice appropriately
I am in a similar situation, I had filed itr2 and had e-verified it, later on got a demand notice citing mismatch in the interest on dividend possibly due to the dates when they were credited & when I had declared(it's quite difficult to track this), so I paid it immediately. Later after 3 months again got another demand notice citing some small 100rs odd change in my salary and interest payment on that, which i again paid.
I looked up online and most of the sites had mentioned how to revert on a demand notice but none of them mentioned to rectify/revise the itr again post paying the demand notice, I had filled itr2 first time this year and found it quite complicated so did not want to touch it again unless absolutely required, since my itr is still not processed & based on the above I guess I have no other option now but to pay the 5000 fine plus any interest and revise the itr?
Please let me know if you find any solution. I am planning to visit a CA to discuss this.
It seems your original ITR was marked as defective return, and you must have received a communication stating the same with time limit for correction. If you dont correct the defects, your ITR is invalid and as good as bot having filed a return.
There is no other way, you have to pay the fine. The Dept doesn't provide any real assistance in this. Pay the fine now and move on. They will charge you more the longer you wait.
what was the date of filing itr ?
