This would certainly matter to those living on top floors;-}
I am on the lookout for suggestions too.
Dimers, please help.
One suggestion I have got is to do metallic/white paint over the rooftop. But don’t know how that effective that would be. Please share if you have got any experience.
Edit: Mods please move it to the correct section
if you need the best and Non spending solution..
Just Cut some 4 to 5 Coconut green Leafs. put over your room. As they are green, it will absorb heat.. and as its 4 to 5, sun will not fall on roof directly. If you still need cool, pour only one bucket over the terrace, over leaf(cut it fully along with the that center part, can be easy to remove).. as leafs are there, it will make water to stay in roof for more time.
And for every 10 days, change the leafs..
Pros –
1. No need to spend 1Rs also.
2. Nice Cooling
3. Water Efficient
Cons :
1. after 10 days, if you forgot to change, then if leaves become complete dry, it will take time to clear it. so better change before it become complete dry and become powder.
2. You need to get coconut tree or Nongu or panai maram(Tamil Dimers, please translate)…

Cons of terrace gardening-
You need to coat a special coating of layer in roof.. Else your roof will slog with water and in due course of time, your iron in roof will get rusted and will start a crack in roof…
Experienced it.. So be careful, before choosing this…
If you are using mud directly in roof, instead of pots, then please consult the professional. COs they will do some 3 layers of coating to prevent the roof.
some of my friends house, they use Lime white used for painting.. SUnnambu in tamil… Calcium carbide or carbonate something..
THis will default reflect back the sun rays, cos white is the source of reflection and it reflect the sunlight…
And also, this have a cooling nature. so only they are including this along with painting in old days(now its a ready made mix in distemper)…
This cost 1kg 5 to 8 rs(branded like suryacem itself)…
So its little cheap and can be done every year too..

Thanks but few days back , mathematics on the economics of solar panel by a seller here www.desidime.com/forums/hot-deals-online/topics… doesn’t justify spending.

Most innovative idea
have seen vidoe some years back that bodh monks raise temp of body to put body on fire. seems you just seen it
Very innovative ideas seen here….
Have seen broken tile chips on roofs in Mumbai Buildings.
If Builders use it then its cheapest cause they will never spend more for anything.
he, you can use thermocol sheet and cover your rooftop and keep weight over it so that sheet are fixed , try this,
also you can make pad with these sheet with reflective material and plastic for damaging from rain water and keep on rooftop

I used this idea, and it is working.. this is available locally, cost about 200 rs for 10 × 10 terrace, room is cooler…
also saw an add on tv… bitumen coating on terrace for 80% less heat..
