I’m not to fond of US either.. I love India, but this kinda stuff makes me suffocate.. I don’t want my daughter to face this crap.. Till the time the net is open let me research where I could live a better life!Did you know in Finland 1MBPS is a legal right! Every finn has access to 1MBPS line!
Yes, the Nordic countries are actually pretty good when it comes to having logical policies. But I must warn you, they are not fond of immigrants for fear of damaging their way of life. Oh, the irony!
but why did you rate 1 star and deleted flipkart
in the video they have just given an example
it doesnt mean flipkart has a real stting with telecom companies
Tweet guys, let’s use their contest against themselves and spread the message to their customers.

actually i read a few articles and could you plz explain how would it harm users
coz what i understood about the airtel zero plan is
1. if airtel doesnt actually cap speed for other sites then its nothing wrong (this speed capping can be regulated by TRAI.)
2. i found out that every web site is free to join the airtel zero plan.
3. so if airtel is not capping speed and websites are paying the data charge of visiting their website on behalf of user.
then whats wrong with it
plz explain me coz m not seeing anything wrong.
what did i miss which all you saw in this???

1. The future plans of AirtelZero is not unveiled, no Spokesperson of Airtel have responded to the question – “Whether AirtelZero policies remain unchanged in future” ? They are instead saying – we can only define whats the current strategy and cannot comment on future policy revisions.
The danger
Every website can join Airtel Zero NOT for FREE, but for a PRICE (which can be refined by Airtel anytime)
Suppose Flipkart joins the bandwagon and offer free traffic via AirtelZero – Then all folks who are unaware of net neutrality will be tempted in going to Flipkart app and eventually give monopoly to Flipkart in Ecomm segment. This in long run will cause price fluctuations as Flipkart will be the only Ecomm service which can be availed by the network provider.
Also, new start ups and ecomm portals with low Angel Investment cannot join AirtelZero by paying heft fees and hence their product will never reach the market. In short it stops innovation & diversity which is the root principle of Internet.

If you really want to know the source here it is :
Ram: Why should I be concerned? I don’t use these meaningless apps anyways?
Syam: The idea to make each and every service on internet chargeable was mooted in 2013 at the MWC (Mobile world congress) by one of the leading operators of India.
What Bharti’s Sunil Mittal suggested at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last year, and is gaining rapid popularity with service providers around the world, was an “interconnect charge”, an effective Internet tax that would force companies such as Google and Facebook to pay network operators a levy similar to the termination fee that networks pay one another to complete a voice call.
This growing clamor for an Internet tax was obliquely backed by the Government at a U.N conference, held last month.

Airtel employees or representatives are commenting using diff IDS so to defend its stance
I’m a little puzzled by the reactions that I see here. Maybe I haven’t understood something.
Could someone please explain how the Airtel Zero proposal differs from the concept of toll free numbers?
I clearly understood the reactions last time when Airtel wanted to charge extra for the “OTT services”. That was bad on their part. But this time I can’t see what’s wrong in their proposal

For number calling you’ll not be differentiated whether its toll free or not and even if they differentiate its until the connection happens not after that where as here one app gets preference over the other in terms of network speed. Call is once established you are good until it ends where as app browsing speeds keeps changing.
Imagine this, you get frequent disconnections or unclear voice or long wait times while calling one number and no issues with the other and eventually which one you choose.

We should give 1 star to flipkart so that they not join airtel zero.if no one joins airtel zero then automatically airtel zero will closed
In short na rahigi bass na bajegi basuri

I am 100% in favor of maintaining net neutrality! I have already written enough about this issue on other platforms, but repeating my opinions here might compromise my privacy which I care for deeply. Suffice it to say that I have been a vocal supporter of net neutrality since 2008. Not only that, I put my money where my mouth is by regularly donating to the #EFF.
With that said, I don’t want to disappoint you completely by alluding a little too much and being vague, so here is a list of posts where I have spoken about this issue on DesiDime:

ha ha, Sachin Bansal the great
He had been chanting in favor of it for quite some time and taking all the bash from the world
Thank you DealSeeker, manuvarghese, geturchiru for your responses
EDIT: Totally offtopic:
I wish the Flipkart CTO would concentrate on getting his own house in order first. The Flipkart search function sucks and it’s becoming worse by the day.
Airtel is basically threatened that in near future people will stop using their call and sms services. This will affect their humongous revenue. They know that as internet speed gets better, Users will call using VOIP services only. They want tax/chanda from OTT services as well.
By launching plans such as Airtel Zero, They want to make free internet a luxury. They will continue to keep price of internet high and speed low. Ideally speed should increase and price should fall as technology will keep getting better with time.
Today we pay
1) 300 Rs per month for Calls and SMS service
2) 200 Rs for shitty mobile internet
3) 900 per household for Broadband
This is what we should be paying ideally in 2020
1) 400-500 Rs for speed greater than 2 Mbps 4G Mobile Internet.
This internet will be sufficient for Voice over internet calls as well.
But this is not what airtel wants. Airtel wants its revenue to increase to trillions and gazillions
Let us assume that Airtel Zero is successful. And let us also assume that Facebook, whatsapp, Flipkart, Amazon , Snapdeal , ebay sign up and pay heavy fee for Airtel Zero. This will happen in future:
Ecommerce :- Slowly these 4 sites will monopolize the market. They will start increasing price. This extra profit will be divided equally between airtel and Ecommerce sites. No new sites will be able to compete against these.
For Services like whatsapp and Facebook : These service will start charging us monthly fee (Let us assume 50 Rs for whatsapp and 50 Rs for facebook). This fee will be equally divided between airtel and whatsapp. No new startups would even dream of competing against these behemoths.
Rest of the internet will remain painfully slow or at 2G speed only. Only sites who pay fee to airtel will be allowed high speed internet.
3rd Example is : Big Movie production houses in bollywood and hollywood can pay telecom operators to block torrent or reduce speed of torrent sites.
Ultimately we will be paying indirectly to airtel for Airtel Zero services.
Please correct me where i am wrong in my conclusions

You’re assuming that Airtel is the only way to access the Internet. But it isn’t
Unless you mean to say that every telco is going to do the same

Yes, I am assuming that every big telco will do the same if TRAI allows it. All of them have similar price structure till now and they are all afraid of VOIP.
My Conclusion in brief:
With Airtel Zero plan, We will have high speed and presumably free access to sites that pay fee to Airtel.
Slow speed and high price for rest of the internet.
This way, sites that are part of Airtel zero will grow bigger. They will monopolize the market. Soon they will start overcharging us. This increased revenue will also go into Airtel’s pocket.
So we will be indirectly paying for Airtel Zero and Innovations would stop.

2) Not angry at all. Not sure why you would think that. Please PM me.
3) As for being the “oracle”, that’s not true! But I did have an early experience with this issue, compared to most dimers, because of the time I spent in the US. So I had an “information advantage” when I made the prediction here: http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...
