Blinkit, the popular grocery delivery app in India is expected to launch home services such as plumbing, electrician, AC repair and other services similar to the Urban Company. Blinkit which currently promises to deliver everything in 8 minutes is reportedly planning to introduce more home-services that can be delivered within 10-15 minutes timeframe aligning with the platform’s quick delivery service model. Customers can avail professional home-services at their doorstep.
Blinkit formerly called Grofers, was acquired by Zomato last year, 2022 in an all-stock deal of ₹4,447 crores. On the acquisition of loss-making Blinkit, co-founder and CEO of Zomato Deepinder Goyal had said, “I know that most investors currently ascribe zero value to the Blinkit business, and that's understandable. But I am confident this will change in due course of time”
After the acquisition of Blinkit by Zomato in August 2022, the grocery-delivery platform’s revenue rose by 48% by September 2022. Despite the losses, Blinkit has been actively looking into the expansion of its dark stores.
The quick grocery delivery app also recently started the delivery of printouts in select cities. However, the brand is not just limited to grocery shopping. Tobacco, Paan, Rolling Paper, Hookah, Candies, and Gums are also available to order on the grocery 8-minute delivery app.
Zomato’s CEO and Co-founder, Deepinder Goyal has also stepped down from the Urban Company board of members most likely due to a conflict of interest between Blinkit and the Urban Company.
The Urban Company is a similar home-services company offering professional home services on demand such as plumbing, electrician, AC repair, salon, spa, pest control & others. It is backed by Tiger Global & other investors with the latest funding of USD 188 million and has a presence in other countries like USA, UAE, India & more. Blinkit is also expected to launch Urban Company-like home services soon.
While it's not yet clear, the list of home services that customers can avail on Blinkit. You can expect to soon start ordering for home services on Blinkit including plumbing, electrician, pest control, AC repair, and others.
