Jio Phone Prima 4G Launch Date in India

In the recent Indian Mobile Congress 2023 held on October 27th, Jio boasted several new developments including the Jio Prima 4G, Jio Space Fiber, & Jio Glasses. Our active community of dimers spotted the Jio Prima 4G on the JioMart being listed for a price of Rs.2599. However, at the current moment, the new JioPhone has been removed from the JioMart website. However, it is likely temporary as the JioPhone Prima launch date is expected to be around Diwali this year.

The JioPrima Phone 4G comes with an ARM CortexTM A53 processor which is probably the world’s smallest 64-bit processor. This low-power processor while sounds decent enough for a feature phone at this price, it is important to note that the JioPhone Prima comes with a processor that was launched in 2012.

Customers can get an expandable storage of 128GB and the phone comes with KAIOS. Now, what is KAIOS?

KaiOS is an open-source OS based on Firefox built by a Hong Kong company whose largest shareholder is the Chinese corporation TCL.

Apart from the advantages it brings of various app support like Whatsapp, YouTube, etc, KaiOS isn’t the best known for security and customers must note that there was a pretty serious security compromise discovered with KaiOS 3.0 with regards to call logs.

JioPhone Prima 4G Price

The price of this new Jio phone, JioPhone Prima 4G is Rs.2599 and this probably makes it the 2nd most expensive Jio Phone in the market after the JioPhone Next launched at a price of Rs.6499

If you do not remember the JioPhone Next (well, good for you) it was launched back in 2021 and while generally phone prices get a bit lower as they age and become old, the JioPhone Next is still priced as Rs.6499 on Reliance Digital and even more expensive on Amazon India.

However, the even more disappointing part of the Jio Phone Next is not even its poor battery or the Jio SIM Lock, but the ancient-age’s Qualcomm Snapdragon QM-215 for its price. The Moto E13 comes at the same price point & is a much better deal to grab.

We saw the same case for the JioBook Laptop as well which falls flat in front of even tablets that come around the same price. Let alone Chromebooks.

But is that the same case with the JioPhone Prime 4G as well? Well, let’s find out.

Is the JioPhone Prima 4G worth buying or not?

The answer is no if you are looking to use a keypad phone for features like UPI payments, YouTube, or WhatsApp, and a yes maybe if calling is your main purpose (though there are other options available too)

Let me make it simple. Jio’s devices while maybe coming with some grand promises like 2G-Mukt Bharat, sadly do not always deliver on what they claim.

For example, the Jio Bharat K1 phone at Rs.999 promises UPI Payments but in reality it doesn’t come with it.

Similarly, the Jio Bharat B1 phone which boasts of JioSaavan in reality only comes with a couple of songs (roughly 30-50) to play and not the entire library.

The JioBook which the brand advertises as a laptop made for students is just an average Android tablet in a laptop’s body and has received several complaints from users for including adult apps and even government-banned apps like TikTok, etc.

Also, think about this for a moment, is it even worth talking about processors, Google Maps, WhatsApp, YouTube, UPI, etc for a keypad phone with a 2.2-inch display with a Rs.2.5K cost?

Even if Jio includes these apps and promises an expandable storage of 128GB, most customers will never be able to use the phone to such capacity simply because its 2012 processor combined with the buggy KaiOS won’t support it without gifting you at least some lags now & then & high battery drainage issues, etc.

Also using UPI and other such private or sensitive tasks in a feature phone is not at all recommended because these phones do not have as high-tech security protocols in place many times and you might risk compromising your private information.

So is the JioPhone Prima 4G worth buying for this price? Probably not as there are better options available in the market if you focus on the basic & the most important feature of these keypad phones and that is simply, calling & build quality.

You do not need WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, or UPI in these entry-level phones. Instead, focus on better build quality & better network/calling functionality. If you think you genuinely need these features, try to extend your budget a bit and get a smartphone Starting from Rs.5000 to Rs.6000 at least. That would serve you much better in the long run.

So that’s all. In this article, we have tried to share our views on what we truly think of the new Jio Prima Phone 4G launch, its price, and whether it's worth buying the Jio Phone Prima or not. While brands try to allure us with these “extra attractive features” that sometimes we do not even need, it is important to note that only you can decide if a phone is worth buying or not for you based on your requirements.
