Getting greeted with pink and red flowers, chocolates, and all things lovely can get a bit annoying and irritating, especially for the singlets out there. Valentine’s Day might be high-key suck, but it doesn’t have to be the worst thing to ever happen. Despite that, if you’re recently single or have been doing this whole solo thing for some time now, remember that V-day isn’t solely for couples.

As per our gathered knowledge, February 14th is a day dedicated to loving. Loving your family, your pet, your friends and most importantly, yourself. We believe 2021 is all about self-love anyway, so with all excitement aside, it seems like the best time to give yourself the proper pampering, loving, and attention you’d otherwise be giving someone else.

How to Celebrate Valentine's Day while being Single

Not sure what to do? Here are 10 awesome ideas to do when you're single on Valentine's Day—no bae required.

1. Plan a Date Night with your Best Friends.

In the past, Valentine’s Day might have been a celebration for couples, but we don't have to stick to old boring traditions. Dust of the FOMO vibes, why not treat your best friends instead? Plan something unique to do with other best friends like planning a camp night or going for a shopping spree. It can be uplifting surrounding yourself with people you adore and love. It’s always important to treat yourself and the important people in your life.

2. Host a Singles-Dinner – Play Cupid

Being singles suck, even though our solitude is enjoyable on most days, V-Day is a reminder how much you miss having a significant other. Well, this idea is perfect for singles who like to play cupid. You can host a socially distant dinner party inviting other singles to match up among friends and who knows you can find someone special as well. Order some delicious foods and drinks to make it even better

3. Gift yourself something

If you've been eyeing something special, whether a big-ticket item or a sweet nothing which can bring a smile to your face, go for it. There's no rule stating that other people have to buy you flowers, sweets, or popular V-Day gifts. Go out and gift yourself that item and show yourself some love!

4. Cook yourself a Dinner.

If you cook or bake, you know how therapeutic it can be, especially on a day where you need something special for yourself only. Go all out and stir up a four-course meal for yourself and your parents. Watch a YouTube recipe video, and with all of the precise measuring and mixing, cook and bake something good. Best of all, you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour afterwards too.

5. Clean

A clean house is a happy house - trust the process we would say. According to a UK based study: Decluttering and cleaning helps a positive mental attitude and can have an energising effect, allowing you to focus on other life challenges. Turn on some music or a podcast, get a head start on summer cleaning, clean your wardrobe and see how much happiness it would bring you.

6. Binge on a TV Show or a Book

Let yourself get carried away on the wings of a great story. Binge-watch a Netflix show you have been putting off. If you are bored of gazing at a screen, switch it with a book. Devouring a romance novel or going the opposite direction with a mystery or thriller. You'll hardly notice the time flying by. It will also tell you how imaginative you are by creating the story inside your head.

7. Have a Spa Day

Pamper yourself with a hydrating face mask, DIY mani-pedi, a relaxing bath with lovely, scented candles and some soothing music. You deserve the best, so treat yourself like the queen that you are on Valentine's Day in particular. Create your little pampering sanctuary and turn off your phone and enjoy.

8. Order your favourite Take-out.

Don't plan to cook on V-Day and order takeout and watch Netflix or Hotstar. Well, here is a fun twist on your usual takeout dinner to try. Order each course from a different restaurant: For an appetizer, order farm-fresh salad or bruschetta, or grab a couple of hand rolls at a nearby sushi spot or tandoori kebabs; for the main course, how about a biryani from your local place or a couple of dishes from your favourite Chinese restaurant; and for dessert order a loaded waffle special or ice cream. Plus, you'll probably have lots of tasty leftovers for the next day.

9. Cut off from Social Media.

Unplugging seems like the best kind of self-love you can practice. Take a brief break from social media to keep the bombardment of lovey-dovey messages at bay. Social media can make even independent, confident people compare themselves to others and make them wonder if everyone else has it better.

10. Embrace your Laziness.

We don’t want you to collapse under the pressure to do something exciting on Valentine’s Day, consider this your license to forget the whole thing. Instead, put on your comfiest PJs, order some takeout (and tip your delivery person well!), cue up some of the TV shows and relish the luxury of laziness.

We do love a good story that ends up in self-love, so this valentine’s day doesn’t sit around moping about being single but turn it around and do something special for you, make a big deal out of it. Also, visit some of the stores above for discounts and offers and treat yourself with something lovely.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
