Swiggy today on March 17th announced Swiggy Launchpad. Swiggy Launchpad initiative offers 0% commission to new Swiggy restaurant partners for the first month. The food delivery brand says that this initiative is brought to encourage restaurants that are new to Swiggy to do business on the online food-delivery platform without having to worry about generating profits from the first month itself. Swiggy had previously launched Swiggy Launchpad in 2019 for college students to order their favorite food online with ease at their college canteen, from nearby restaurants & more.

What is Swiggy Launchpad?

Swiggy Launchpad is an initiative that offers 0% commission to new Swiggy restaurant partners for the first month. Swiggy says this initiative is brought to encourage more restaurant businesses in India to start their online journey and build a win-win relationship with their restaurant partners’ ecosystem.

  1. Swiggy Launchpad offers 0% commission to new restaurant partners on Swiggy for the first month

  2. This offer only applies to new restaurant partners of Swiggy and not existing outlets of an existing Swiggy restaurant partner

  3. Under the Swiggy Launchpad for Restaurant Partner program, newly onboarded restaurant partners on Swiggy will not be charged any commissions for the first month. Post which, Swiggy’s standard commissions would apply

  4. Currently, as per reports, Zomato and Swiggy have commissions ranging between 24% to 28% of the order value. Expect to pay a similar commission percentage post the first free month of Swiggy Launchpad

  5. New restaurant partners who have never been on Swiggy before can avail of several more benefits

  6. These benefits include “commission waiver, dedicated growth manager, free advertisements on Swiggy app, extended delivery radius, apps to manage business performance, create high-quality menus, as well as data & insights through business intelligence dashboards.”

Zomato and Swiggy are the biggest names in the online food delivery industry. Zomato was founded in 2008 while Swiggy was founded a couple of years later, in 2014. But, it's interesting to note that Swiggy even in a short span of time has been successful to capture a large market share, standing at around 44% in FY22 next to Zomato’s market share of 56% in the same fiscal quarter.

Swiggy last year in 2022 also launched some new plans for its Swiggy One membership and a new Swiggy Mini platform in November 2022, which helps sellers sell anything across India without a commission for a lifetime

It's important to note that Zomato too partnered with Blinkit last year and has recently launched Zomato Everyday while Blinkit is in talks to launch Home Services soon.

Thirty days seems hardly anything.

But some would abuse the offer by creating dummy streetfood stall and self ordering.

Thus, on case to case basis, the big companies should consider extending it beyond a month, for new partner vendors with more potential.
