you missed "simple one" after ola and simple launch, Ather looks costly and their monthly mantadory charge scheme (even paid full) kills it. Due to ola and simple one, others will reduce price or increase motor power and battery for sure.

Wondering when ola and ather like companies can offer more speed and range then why hero and similar brands (which launched their ebikes a long time ago and here in the market since a very long period) fails to provide cheaper better faster and with more km range ebikes.

Deal Subedar Deal Subedar

hero electric, chetak – old airtel like, lo*ting people with high price

Ather – looks like a savior, but still lo*ting people with high price but technology improved, so half better than hero electric, also ather lo*ting with some monthly confusing schemes extra, so they can* lo*t people every month instead of one time*, they call connected feature but mandatory.
we just need a scooter to ride from point A to point B, no need of this loting tactics like connected feature, but its mandatory.*

ola/simple one – Like jio , low price with high cutting edge technology, not old baked thing…others have no choice have to cut their price and improve the spec of their ebike, no more fancy ads with just 250w or 600w BLDC motor vehicle for 90k, as ola giving 5.5kw (8.5kw peak) bldc motor for 100k.

simple one is little better with one fixed and one removable battery, as battery weight matters for range, if we’re in city means, just remove one removable battery so weight is reduced and give even more range with fixed battery,

offtopic:
expecting 10km range supercapacitor or ultracapacitor batteries which charge in 10 seconds, so its enough for 50% of people for within street rides
short rides – ultracapacitor battery
medium city ride – removable battery of low capacity (so less weight)
long highway ride – removable battery of high capacity.

Okinawa and Hero and others don’t even stand a chance. If what is claimed by Simple on paper really works. It will be the winner for what’s available/ launched now.

Analyst Analyst

Stop this debate because ₹120 petrol otherwise will be a new normal.
You see it through the prism of petrol cost. The these E bikes are very affordable.

May be these companies wanted to launch their scooters and government helped them to come in focus by not reducing petrol price?

Any thing is possible for corporates today may be just a large electoral bond and work is done in their favour. Why would corporates otherwise give hundreds of crores to a political party?

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet
Link Copied

Can’t comment on the conspiracy.

But, the EV prices are mostly same even when petrol price was 80

When Ather 2019 was launched in 2018, price was close to 1.3 lacs.

Prior to 2018:
Hero Electric & Okinawa were low powered scooters based on lead acid batteries costing max of 70k.

2018:
Ather 450 was launched, way ahead of everyone else in power & reliability. On-road close to 1.3 lacs

Okinawa slowly got few lithium ion models close to 1 lac.

2019:
FAME 2 & GST revision made Ather 450 price as low as 1.13 lacs

Chetak & iQube both launched around 1.2 lac to 1.3 lac range.

2020:
Ather 450X & 450 Plus launched at 1.6 lac & 1.4 lac respectively.

Chetak increased price to 1.4 lac without even delivering 1,000 vehicles.

2021:
FAME 2 revision made all the vehicles cost to go down by 15k

Additional State subsidies now making it even cheaper in few states.

Ola S1 launch is making the EV to go below the magical figure of 1 lac.

Point:
EV 2W is getting cheaper gradually since 3 years thru FAME1 to FAME2 to FAME2.1.

Even if petrol price is 80 rupees now, current EV price makes perfect sense to go, forget about 100.

OP did the good work, here are my observations which are important and missing in the post.

We should not mix the upcoming models and running models in market.
Three models are missing in the list : Okinawa praise and Praise pro, Revolt RV400 Bike.

Scooter Vs Bike
Battery range and Charging types
Kerb weight support

Personal note: I’m yet to experience Ola ebike and Simple one ebike.
For Men – my vote goes to Revolt RV400
For Women: my vote goes to Okinawa praise Pro

What about these brands like Revolt, Joy, Benling, Ampere, Pure EV, Evolet, Bolt, Eeve, etc.?
Please consider these also in your next post for this.

This post is incomplete if you don’t include these brands.
Even small players have come up with good models. Please consider adding them.

Compare them with expenses of Patrol scooters.
They can cover the difference of price in 3 years itself.

Most of them asking simple ev to be on the list.
Fyi no reviewers had reviewed it. Most of the specs are just on paper. Wait for atleast one reviewer to review it.
Ola atleast gave scooter for review. People who test driven has already shared their views.
Also ather doesnt make subscription plans mandatory. Using ather 450 for past 2 years. Never spent penny on subscription except when i want to service. I subscribe for a quarterly plan and give it for 5k service. Bought for 1.25 lakhs back in october 2019. Die to Covid couldn’t drive much. Driven 13k kms as of now. As of date Ather is the only comoany that has given a practical scooter.

Okinawa , Revolt are although there. The service build acessories are crappy. Ather is a kind of abv avg in service build.
Ola has thermal throttling issues due to its poor cooling solution. Ather has dual fan to cool the batteries. While Ola has passive cooling, which is not effective during highher speeds, Since batteries taking the shape of chasis fans couldn’t be installed even in future to cool it. Basically its a design flaw. All ola can do is. Allow users to enjoy max spped 115kmph for 1 to 2 min. Then after warn to get back to normal speed. Or totally restrict the scooter to not go beyond 80kmph. Ola’s originally called etergo which was launched in Netherland was basically with downgraded motor and battery spec. But etergo had max speed restricted to 45kmph due to which design made sense.
Our indian weather plus the flaw in battery design which doesnt allow to cool the batteries properly may prove to be a major drawback for Ola. I really want india towards ev. Its disheeartening to see. Why Ola didnt forsee this issue.
Chetak has best build. For the spec they are offering . they are asking too much price. Low powered motor . battery spec just like ather. Plus cost way higher than any ev scooters. Puts Ola to the top of the list even having major flaw. If you are a user who drive at 50 to 60kmph only. Then ola is for you.
Cant comment on icube. Looks boxy bulky range is less

Any progress to highlight after 4 months? thinking to replace my ’17 activa with an electric one. OLA is clear no for me, as I need a scooter especially to carry household in the front cabin. okinawa, hero, and local DIY scooters are major fancy in my city.

Had rented Ather last year via Royal brothers for a day

Acceleration and speed was fine but too light and thus doesnt seem safe

If any vehicle kisses from behind then spot death maybe

Ather too light. It weighs more than 110kgs.
Just like activa and jupiter. What makes u think its light. Probably you must be driving Royal enfield or Harley davidson.

I usually ride Apache but rode activa 3g and 4g many times still felt Ather lighter comparatively
